For the big tourneys though, 9-15 points can mean the difference between victory and defeat. I will admit that i'm getting a kick out of them discussing it as well
Now for some stuff to contribute to the thread. My prediction about kannonz being a lot less useful in large points games seems to have some merit. Played against an ork player with my foot guard in a 2k tourney and he brought a barebones unit of kannons. Since I knew how pointless it was to shoot them, and knew that most of my important stuff outranged him, I set up most of my army away from his kannonz and never shot at them once. They only killed 20 conscripts for their troubles, and those got back up next turn Since I knew what to expect, I just ignored them. Once other players see them more, I have a feeling they might as well. At the very least, people learn to not bother shooting at them very quickly.
So thats something to watch out for at least. I still think kannonz will remain a great choice at 1k and under games. The fact that they're so cheap and tough means they will make for some reliable firepower the entire game. Kannons are cool an all, but Im with you there MrMoustaffa, they are situational. You either need to bring a bunch of them, or none at all. And then you have to aggressively position them on the field, because their range can be a factor. 36 inches is nice sure, but it always seems to be just out of range for me. Ill get around to making some and using them eventually Im sure, but currently, Im focusing on other units. Spamming cheap rokkit buggies seems like a fun idea again.
I realized that in a 2k point game, I can field 18 buggies for around 600ish points.........yeaouch !

Lego cannons are awesome proxies. Even more so if you load them with pellets and really shoot your enemies. For some magic reason their range even seems to be around 36", too.
And... well... they still look better than the original models.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe. |

About how large are the original models? I've been making mine from the zzap guns and kannons included with the battlewagon kit, along with some card board, sprue, and bottle caps.

I played against a guy who had the actual models, they're a little bit larger than their grot krewmen. If you know what an IG heavy weapon team looks like, imagine that weapon, but scaled down for grot use. A kannon's blast shield came up to my guardsmen's chin from what I could tell.

Actually, with 2 bottle caps (metal, mind you) and some long pop-rivets, you can make some pretty neat Orky wheels.

They're plastic bottlecaps, but yes, they are for the wheels. Only one actually has bottlecap wheels. The other is on a sport of three-legged platform-turret thing, and the third's wheels are made from old sink drain caps. I'll throw up a picture, but I'd have to grab my brother's iphone camera for it, and i just used it for the photo i put up on the ork tactics section, so i don't hink he'll be so keen to let me take it again immediatly.

Up to a guardsmen's chin? Mine a bit larger, more like a touch over their head. But i doubt anyone will complain about them being bigger than the official models.

Ok, I'll get some pictures on Sunday. Going out of town between now and then, but I'll get them as soon as I can. They aren't painted, just base coated silver. I'm not much of a painter.
