I'm with Loki, just buy the trestle table and throw a mat on it.

No need to learn carpentry.

I've thought about doing the modular terrain with puzzle mats.... Anyone tried this? They are a bit awkward when it comes to size. But I think it could work

I got 2 of these tables

So I can put it away easily. I just set them up and stick my ROB tiles on top. Or you can use a generic green gaming matt or whatever you want. If you're not pressed for space you can go for the kind that doesn't fold in half.. since the ones I have aren't perfectly level, they stick up a teeny bit in the middle, but it doesn't bother me.

I'll second the 'many 2x4 sheets' plan.

Get an 8x4 sheet of wood cut into four 2x4 sheets. Paint/texture/cover or do what you want with the sheets. Use three sheets if playing 40k, two if playing smaller games. Having all four gives you a bit of variety (you could model a road onto one of them, etc..)

Either put them on a dining room table or on a paste table/trestle table for games, the whole thing should fold up into a cupboard.

We have a place called a Home Depot, a Walmart, or a place called a Lowes.

These are some stores that have several options for you.

1. You can buy a metal modular shelving system. One I have set up in the garage has a couple of shelves, and you can set it up in either a 4X4, a 4X6, or a 4X8, all the way up to adding on as many sets as you want to. My base set was around $44.00 USD.

2. You could buy yourself a sheet of 4X8 or two pieces of 4X4 plywood, and use them as either a single table, or use saw horses and set up the board in a place that won't move. Prepping the plywood is just adding the color paint you want onto the plywood, and mixing in a little sand for texture, then paint the boards. (I have a few of these as well, I have two 4X4 sheets, and one 2X4 sheet to add in them as a spacer to extend the battlefield.

3. You can make a table with scrap wood from a local construction site, or go dumpster diving and get what you want.

The Saw Horse can be made out of about three 2X4's, and then you can use 2 4X4's as cross pieces. then reinforce the plywood with some 2X4's, or use them as is, and set them on top.

Cut to size, and there you go. You can then use the pink styro boards for the terraign and overmats.( different colors for different environments, then add on your scenery/ hillsides, etc.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

I had a small car at the time so I used 2'x4' flat boards, 2"x4"x6' boards for support., and $2 legs from IKEA.

I got a load of 2x2 MDF from B&Q (you know, www.diy.com).
My local is a large store. They sell huge sheets of it, and cut it to size.
I bought a 8x4 board, and they cut it as requested. It was by far the cheapest way I could get it, for the size.

I've tried to make the same as GW's 2x2s, and used the spare 2 boards into hills.

(sorry about the picture).
Buy or borrow an angled jigsaw cutter or a sander (both if you're making hills), and round the edges.

To use them as tables, get them as 3x4, maybe.
Add legs, and you're off.

For really cheap, try charity shops.
www.bhf.org.uk has Furniture & Electrical Stores listed on their site.

I am working on using two 2x4 pieces of wood to make an Infinity table for my house, just need to get something to put them on. I was thinking about building a table, but I think I might just go for the 2 folding table option. Those things will always come in handy for having company over and having a BBQ.

I also made one of these for taking to work or a friends house to get our game on:

It's only a 4x4 and I imagine there are cheaper ways to build it, but it is sturdy and holds up well.

One thing to consider is a double bed is a little bigger than 6x4. We normally set up the board on the sofa bed or in our bedroom.

I have one of those tables. I bolted a 4x8' sheet of 5/8" MDF to the top of it. Absolutely perfect. I used three bolts, counter sunk into the MDF so that they don't poke out and covered with the green railroad "grass" sheets. I then screwed some 1x4s on the sides for a railing.

All said about $100. Easy to move around but still sturdy.

I used 2 3x4 foot pieces of £1.50 per square meter hardboard screwed to a 4x4cm pinewood frame that could be bolted together with some bolts and wingnuts then seperated and stored.

Hardboard is flexible so you can create uneaven terrain by adding an extra layer of 4x4cm to the pinewood frame in some areas.

The board was sprayed with spray can glue and covered with modeling sand and model railway modeling flock from my local hoby shop.

It was one hell of a nice board, my parents threw it out when I went to university :(

Debating building a new one but I don't know anyone to play unless I can get my house mate interested and collecting his khorne again.

I for one welcome our new revenant titan overlords...

Ive just bought a spare table off ebay to use as a base for mine.

Cost me £5 for a solid table, that i am going to be screwing 2 4x4 plywood sheets onto.

Then again, i do have a dedicated gaming space.
