They mention in the chosen of khorne audiobook that he wears the chains on his arms as a nod to his primarch and his gladiatorial background, as others have said.

Plus the badass thing.

I think this is correct. After all the axe and chain were a gift from Angron.

Its a khorne thang baby.

People were talking about Kharns armor falling apart during his thousands of years of badass (wich I agree with) when I thought, '' Why isn't he a demon prince then?''. Then I realised the number of special sacrifices, sacred evil rituals & paper work it would take to receive that promotion. Personaly I don't see Kharn as a social climber, it interferes with his busy Mother F@#*ing Kill Everything schedule.

That assumes there IS a "between massacres" for Kharn.

Sure there is, massacring his way through the crowd to get to the next big massacre

"Kharn's Naked Arm" would be a cool name for a Land Raider.

While he's obviously not a daemon prince yet (and honestly, even Kharn has a long way to go to catch up with Angron), Khorne has obviously taken an interest in him. IIRC, Kharn has "died" a couple of times only to return.

The only (serious) reason I can fathom is to give him a sort of gladiator aesthetic?

He's not a Daemon Prince presumably because he doesn't want to be, and he's only died once.

It's just to look kewl, but I like this rationalization:

It's an homage/tribute to Angron.

I suppose, but it's a bit of a plot hole with both Khorne and Slaanesh forces. They're both meant to be completely bonkers, yet they sit patiently aboard their ships for months at a time between attacking planets. From the description of Chaos in general, it seems more likely they'd just start blowing up each other's ships to watch the pretty explosions (or RWAGH BLOOD in Khorne's case).

Arguing with some people is like playing chess with a pigeon. You can play the best chess in the world, but at the end of the day the pigeon will still knock all the pieces off the board and then gak all over it.

Is this really a counterargument? I mean, how many mortals who die without the favor of the warp gods are resurrected? Also, I don't know of any evidence that supports your presumption that Kharn rejects daemonic princedom.

Yes, I like it, too. There's so much emphasis on the bloodthirstiness of Khornate warriors, especially Kharn, that its easy to forget these guys also have other values.

Well, the vestiges of the values that put them on the Crimson Path to begin with, but yes.

I'm sure Kharn would love nothing more than to finally die.
