You could have a big rock on the base that conceals the 9V. That way you don't have to make a huge base just to hide the battery.

Use 1" foam to build up the base so you can hide the battery in there?

Trim the foam so it looks like Hyperion is standing on the edge of a cliff or hill maybe. Should give you enough space to then hide a 9V and run the wires up a leg or something.

It's going to be some durable foam! Also, any suggestions on what tool to use to cut down the grooves to the LED chamber? I was thinking of hand drilling two holes at both ends of each groove and use a hobby knife to cut it down, using each hole as areas to initiate cutting.

I was thinking of building insulation foam. The type commonly used to make terrain and hills. It is cheap at your local hardware store. Once painted and all that it is pretty durable.

They have stuff you can coat it with to make it even harder/more durable if you want.

I have some news:

Good news is that I've finally gotten my project underway again, and this time with more finess than before. Since I didn't have the right tools for cutting fine holes into the gun chambers of the starburst cannon, my FLGS store owner has kindly accepted to do the cuts since he is more arguably better suited to the job than I (appropriate equipment and more experience).

I'll keep you posted!

No magnets, I use a $10 Walmart gun case with pluck foam that works well for transporting big models.
