If that were a meth lab, then it'd have been confirmed by now; the trace evidence, residue and smell would give it away.

I'd have difficulty believing that was a natural gas explosion, just because the concentration of gas in the house that would be required to produce a blast such that would cause that kind of devastation is unlikely.

Im not sure if this supports your statement or not but 3 years ago there was a natural gas explosion in my home town. It destroyed nearly half a block of very sturdy 1920's ish brick buildings.

I have to imagine that if those building were constructed of the stick and foam that most houses are these days that the scene would be similar to Indiana.

Houses looked to new to me for that to be an issue... Besides, unless you are talking about a furnace, or water heater with a different name, we typically don't use too many of the "old fashioned" boiler type systems in residential areas these days.

My money is on the gas. Certainly there are other things that could explode in a house, but not really with that level of force.

Except if they were newer homes, you think a gas explosion would be less likely. A newer system would be less likely to catastrophically fail like that.

And I really can't believe they have to bulldoze so many of the homes. Aside from a few holes it looks like most of them are perfectly fine, the ones next door obviously not but those accross the street surely.

I'm no structural engineer, but perhaps the force of the explosion did something to the foundations of many of those homes? Or somehow altered the bedrock enough to make it unstable?

Maybe, I suppose the shockwave could cause some nasty cracks.

Yeah, that's like comparing a firecracker to dynamite. The Halifax explosion was a ship carrying gunpowder.
Spoiler:

yeah true. But I had just been researching Halifax when I saw this and thought I have to toss that in lol

Unknown cause as of yet, with 80 homes damage and at least 2 confirmed dead. As a local story I know it may not be of interest, to everyone, I thought the picture was pretty astounding and others would want to see it.

Sorry, my bad. I had the deadly combo of red beans and rice for lunch, and then Mexican food for supper....
