Provided she's of legal consenting age, he hasn't really left you any other option. And it sets a good precedent to others who might borrow your stuff.
Bonus points if you ruin his life over it. But then I'm a seriously jaded person who would go out of his way to destroy someone for the slightest offense.

Call it a learning experience and move on. Life's too short to worry about gak you can't control. In a few years time, If you ever get the opportunity, return the favour (selling the title deed to his parent's house would work).

Talk to the punk's parents. Thieves are the scum of this planet. Don't let him get away with it without even trying.
Alternatively, sleep with his girlfriend. So long as she's not under 18.

This is straight up theft. Assuming the rights of the owner, and all that jazz. Talk to the police. Make a statement, provide them with his details, and have him charged. He has stolen from you, and then mocked you about it.
Don't take it lying down.

It is never immature to sleep with someones girlfriend when they have wronged you.
It could be worse, you could pay the iron price to get your books worth back from him. He should be thankful that all you do is ruin his girlfriend for him.

First of all, I'd confront him in person. Don't be a dick, but just remind him it's stealing etc. If he doesn't get it and repays you, go to the parents first, show them the picture, and explain what happened. Finally, if they don't do anything, go to the police, dial your local station and explain whats going on, OR get a ride there and explain it in person.
Be prepared to lose it though, its an old codex which is on the verge of being replaced.

Screw that, go straight to the law. He's bought the ticket, now he's gotta take the ride. He's only a minor, so chances are a theft charge will be expunged from his record when he turns 18 anyway.

I still say ruin his life. I've screwed some people over in my day, but never my friends. Oddly enough it's been the other way around, which is why I have so few friends anymore. I hate people.
Dakka has at least 3 cool people on it. The rest are meh. I'll let you all stew on that for a while.
/sarcasm
I'm inclined to say ignore it and just delete him from your life, but then I'm also vindictive so I say rat on him to his parents and if they ignore it then file a police report. At the very least it should cause some embarrassment unless he's a sociopath and has no shame or dignity.
Can we get a ruling on the scale of attractiveness of the girlfriend? If she's hot then you just have to. But so rare is the hot girl that dates a 17 year old 40k player. About as rare as people who run Thunderfire Cannons.

unless he learned such behavior from his meth head parents. There was a time when going to someones parents was worse than going to the police. But this last 30 years in the US has seen some of the worst possible people breed together and be completely irresponsible parents. We even televise bad parenting now, that's how popular it is.
So unless his dad is old school, odds are that in this day and age they won't do crap, and they'll say that timmy was just acting out because he couldn't get Black Ops 2 on release night.

baritowned wrote:Hey guys, four or five months ago I let a "friend" borrow my DA codex, since he was planning on starting them when Vengeance came out. Well, for the last two months I have been trying to get it back from him, and he's just pretty much been ignoring me. I've only seen him in person once since then, and he didn't have it with him.
Well, come to find out last night, he has apparently sold it to someone else he knows. I tried to call him numerous times after finding this out, left some voicemails, and messaged and text him quite a bit. After an hour or so, he finally replied to me on facebook, and was just being as immature as possible. He then proceeded to post this link:
http://i.imgur.com/GhvDe.jpg
to my facebook. Then, after I said I would go to the police (bluffing...), he messaged me and said that any cop would look at that picture and see that I "hit" him.
I know where he lives, so I'm debating on going to his house and confronting him... And normally I wouldn't resort to violence, but I can't in this situation because he's 17...
So would you guys have any advice on what I should do? I know the new book is coming out soon, but I would like to play a few games with the current one, and not have to buy another copy...
Borrow his car/girlfriend/ps3 and sell it. He would have to let you ;'3
Also, don;t go easy on him, he DID make that photoshop pic. Its pretty obvious he is the type that takes kindness as weakness.
Lastly, be happy he betrayed you with a cheap codex and you get to see his true color ( 17? well thats really old for pulling this type of
irresponsible lack of respect act ). You are better off without this type of friend.

Sadly the grass is no greener this side of the pond.
Does he do drugs or anything as a trip to the cops with some info plus stolen book issue might prompt them searching his house for drugs. If the do this don't forget to film it

1) Get him to admit selling it
2) Say that you're pressing charges
You have the right to press charges, whether the cops like it or not. A crime's a crime. And to be fair you need to... get back at him square this up, if nothing else just so he learns his fething lesson.
His folks should be mortified, and hopefully they'll flay him alive, and just give you the £20 to replace the book.
Parents are the best option, though put fire under them by getting a written confirmation that he did so and press charges. Be adamant with the cops too.
That picture he sent has got me fricking pissed off for you man!

This only furthers my already negative view of kids in this hobby.
Man, aint that the truth. Kids these days......
I'll echo what others have said and recomend that you contact the parents about his theft. If you are a minor as well (something I'm not clear on from the original post) get your parents to do it instead. You might ask them to do it anyway as the parents are more likely to take a call from another adult more seriously than one from some random kid.
You CAN make a report with the police, but to be honest a 20$ theft is really a waste of their time if you can settle it yourself. The best you can probably hope for is an officer show up and talk to the kid. That might scare him into giving it back, replacing the book, caughing up the money, etc. But the best bet is to get the parents involved.
TR
Edit: I'm at work right now and my network firewall blocks the ISP that is hosting the photo the OP links. What does it show?

I've read all the posts...
1. Bang his Girlfriend. Or His Mom. Or his dad if you are inclined that way.
2. Film it.
3. Sell the video
4. Use the proceeds to buy a new Dark Angels Codex.
OR
1. Tell his parents and get the scumbag in some major trouble!

Agree with the "Tell parents/club/FLGS" part.
But as the new DA Codex should be out in January to March next years, force him to buy you the new one instead. Costs double the price of the old one, so you have a benefit from it after all.

Chiming in for the banging Girlfriend/Mom idea. Nothing is more precious to a geek than a girl that actually willfully hangs out with him.(IE not getting paid >.> ) And it boosts your morale!
I find that going to the parents of kids these days is useless. The kids are the ones doing all of the controlling. Parents either aren't around/ don't care/ don't know what to do. That's the new generation for you.
Or just leave it as is. $20 is pretty easy to get back. Won't be the end of the world for you. And it isn't likely to be the last time you lose $20 in some manner.

Someone once told me this about Porsche Panameras:
"There are two Panamera's in my hood. Visual pepper spray. When Jesus was on the cross and cried out "Father, why have you forsaken me?" it wasn't because of the whole crucifixion, it was because he foresaw the design of the Porsche Panamera."
You learn something new everyday. |

Your other option if sleeping with his water buffalo of a girlfriend or mom and you're both in high school, go to the principal or guidance counselor and say he's bullying you on the internet. Does he have a car or something valuable, or do You know where exactly in his parents house he lives and have access to the outer perimeter? If he has a car, buy a valerian spray and spray it generously into his car radiator grille, wheels etc. Local cats should be very happy and get tons of lulz - as a result the guy might be forced to sell his car because it will start smell very funny. Put some sugar into petrol...
Spray it on the wall outside of his windows, if You get access to his car, inject egg yolk into seats - after some time the smell will get unbearable. Get some other pheromones etc and apply to his belongings, then watch animals acting strangely towards him. Do not do anything which is apparently aimed at property destruction, instead use more subtle ways (Raven Guard, not Space Wolf style ).
If You are proficient with wiring, You can remove his side turn signal (simple screwdriver will work), break the bulb and shortwire bulb cap and car hull - next time his alarm will go on, most electronics in his car will face fast and short exterminatus. Spray montage foam into exhaust pipe.
If you know how to proxy your ip, put adverts on some sites for alternatively oriented people with his phone number. Put other adverts, where he offers to support charity projects etc (i.e. -begs for being asked to give his money away for free). If you can get his credit card number, order some stupid stuff OR if you have a buddy and you can get HIS cc number, order goods to be delivered to this small little fether and then watch your buddy rage over him, but this one is bordering with credit card fraud...

Poo can be washed, but pouring a nice splotch of superglue will ensure that it stays there. Unless the guy is experienced wargamer and knows about acetone and stuff (but experienced wargamers would not steal an outdated DA codex).
