As others pointed out, having a set of minis that are all in scale with each other would be a very difficult task. Of course, that might not be a big issue, due to the fact that the visual effects guys that worked TNG, DS9, and Voyager often played very fast and loose with scaling anyway! For example, the Klingnon Bird of Prey was shown at something like half a dozen different sizes over the years.
I hate to let my inner nerd show but there are many different classes of the Bird of Prey. I think in the episode "Yesterday's Enterprise" where the 1701-C came back in time and changed the time line it was the largest Bird of Prey there was in the show. If you look at the size of the Enterprise from Enterprise, ToS to TNG the original NX class would be roughly the size of the Saucer section of the 1701. The 1701 was the same size of the Saucer section of the 1701-D. So, the Bird of Prey from Star Trek III was a scout class vessel it was roughly the size of the the 1701. They got slightly bigger but the sizes didn't change to much over time.
*cough*

Can't tell if I am right or wrong on the sizes but I am correct about the different classes at least.

Wrong about the sizes - across the two classes, which you were right bout, at least six different sizes have been identified across the source material.
Even more amusing, official books aren't even consistent with the sizes within a class...

Well the Star Trek universe is filled with little things like that. The whole romulan thing in Enterprise is completely different than the history in ToS show Balance of Terror. Its really not any worse than GW with their Fluff

If you saw the last episode you know that...
Automatically Appended Next Post: As for the Bird of Prey issue, the whole 'numerous classes' thing is a retcon patch to explain the size differences.
And all this goes back to my contention that SFB has is all backwards, Star Trek is not about realism and nitpicky rules for everything under the sun. Which is why I almost think Clix is the better way to go.

Indeed, I think it is unfortunate that the realities of the TNG production schedule and budget forced the use of the BoP model to represent both classes; as that article at Ex Astris Scientia points out, it would be a bit silly "in real life" to have two different starship classes of that are radically different in size but identical in every visual detail! It's not a huge deal, but it does make guys like us that like to geek out about the technical details of Star Trek want pull our hair out .
