Sydney CBD is closed two days a week.
from their own facebook timeline.

They are closing on their slow days - Sydney CBD is pretty much dead on Sundays these days (even now that the reign of the dark queen of weeds is "over" ). A lot of the stores in the back streets are closed on that day.

Their store model isn't cost effective to operate here. They reduce hours (or close) of operation on several stores, and use it to open up more NEW stores in other locations.

The Dark Queen of Weeds? I am intrigued please tell me more.

Also, actually OT, GW Liverpool has had similar hours since it became a one man store at its current location and IIRC the MacArthur Square store which is moving to Campbelltown soon, will have these hours too.
Seems to be GW's current trend for Australia.

I mean you pay for the space regardless if your open or closed. It's not like they say "oh your closed...take $150 off the rent the week".

Some shopping centres actually stipulate the exact opposite, in fact... You have to be open on specific days.

It's just the nickname that Clover Moore had whilst I lived in that council area. Clover is a weed. She was hell-bent on turning the CBD into a vehicle-free, commerce-free, pedestrian hippy-greenspace. They're doing it up here in Newcastle, and it's pretty much killing off Newcastle's city centre.

ding-dong the witch is dead and all that.

(although her dark apprentice replaced her, so any gains are minor.)

One of the other campaign slogans from opposition over the years was "This town needs some round-up." (because round-up kills Clover).

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

Yeah, being closed Monday and Tuesday aren't such big deals, but early hours on Friday and Saturday? That's butt-fething horse-gak. Who only games until 5 on a Saturday? Jeez.

5pm closing time for retailers on a Saturday is standard practice in Australia.

New South Wales store seem to have a tradition of Thursday late-night shopping (it's payday, after all) and not on Fridays. Here in Victoria we have late-night shopping on Fridays - because its the start of the weekend.

Remember, these places are shops first, gaming venues second. I do late-night gaming almost every Friday night (sometimes Saturdays). But at my house, with friends. In a shop is a very different fish.

Quite often we are lucky to get out of the office by 6 - and most of the people who work for me are gamers of one form or another...

Granted, they are all adults with jobs and their own money to spend - so I don't think they are in GW's target demo anymore.

No different in Australia, really, in my experience. It's just the way Austrlian businesses run and have always run. Being open late generally just isn't done outside of late night Thursday/Friday shopping nights or large chain stores like Target which tend to do 24 hour trading now. Gaming stores closing early on Friday and Saturday nights is common as well. While gaming at stores does happen (I personally do it due to having an amazing FLGS and my terrain for my own board still being under construction), Australias gaming culture is more based around actual clubs with their own space which set their own times or gaming at home with friends.

I know - largely the same here as well...which makes me laugh when I here a "mom and pop" store complain that the chain stores are putting them out of business. No - they just make it hard for working people to give them money.

That said, the vast majority of proper gaming stores are open later in the US if for no other reason than a large chunk of their customer base are night owls for one reason or another. A lot of general hobby stores have the 10-6 or even 9-5 hours though - which makes me shake my head every time I drive past them with a few hundred dollars that I just feel like blowing for no particular reason and they are closed.

Touche my friend, although to be fair to clover (the plant) at least it puts nitrogen back into the soil, something moderatley useful.

Nod. Though places like Target/Big W/K-Mart aren't 24-hour in my area. Maybe a couple of supermarkets go 24-hour on Friday-Sat nights, but that's about it outside of Christmas Trading hours...

The FLGS (Good Games) is open from midday to 10pm 6 days a week and is closed on Mondays.

My best time to get gaming stuff is Monday mornings (this used to work when they had 10-10 hours and they were open Mondays but closed Tuesdays.). Hence why I do most of my shopping online now. Their hours work better for me.

The place that opened locally is open until 9pm most nights. 7pm or so on Sat and 6? on Sunday. He is also big on running lots of tournaments and competitions and such that have smallish entry fees (usually buying something from the store). I'm a bit over in-store gaming in general, though. I'd rather have friends over when I'm set up in a month or so. Gaming table, my own terrain, drinks fridge.. all the good stuff.
