The big problem with sticking the lord in with regular CSM is you lose the rhino option. At least if you want to run 2x special weapons. Plague Marines or Noise Marines don't need to run full 10 man squads to be effective. They are more flexible, and don't need the lord support to begin with. If you run Plague Marines you only need 5 of them for dual specials, so you can easily attach a lord or sorcerer with the torrent flamer for a nice shooting unit cruising around in a rhino.
If you want to run an assault marine squad Slaanesh is great with bolters, bolt pistols, close combat weapons. Add in the doom siren/combi-melta/lightning claw on the champ, combi-melta on the rhino. You can take 9 men if you want a lord to support them, or take 10 men and stick your slannesh lord on a bike. With a couple of melta bikers and the lord supporting your rhino assault they should be able to crack anything and get into combat relatively easy.

Regretfully because of the 10 man restriction for the blastmaster in my 2500 point Emperor's Children army I don't have a single blastmaster.
I run 6 man rhino born assault squads (to keep with fluffy numbers) out of rhinos. One marked CSM squad that hangs out with Lucius. Thus I get a melta gun and a doom siren.
Then I run a noise marine HTH assault squads with combi melta and doom siren on the noise champion.
Then its a 6 man biker squad with two melta guns and a biker lord with Burning brand. Thus more melta and AP3 flamer goodness.
The stand and shoot objective sitting noise marine squad just all have sonic blasters and a noise champion who twiddles his thumbs since he can't take a sonic blaster.
Everything ends up fearless, everything ends up with FNP and it has worked wonderful so far.

Plague marines for 5 with dual specials is quite amazing.. I usually run them at 5 or 7 with dual specials. They will always out perform a 10 man CSM squad hands down, and now with Poisen they arn't as crappy in CC as they used to be.

Sonice blasters you can fire twice and then assault correct?
To me it's other way around. NM are better at assault due to fearless and doom siren. Bolters being pretty sexy these days I would use the marked csm for objective holding.

Every time I hear "in my opinion" or "just my opinion" makes me want to strangle a puppy. People use their opinions as a shield that other poeple can't critisize and that is bs.
If you can't defend or won't defend your opinion then that "opinion" is bs. Stop trying to tip-toe and defend what you believe in. |

Against Power Armor or necrons or Tau, you're better off with marked Marines. It all comes down to how much your opponent's army relies on cover saves rather than armor saves.
Wow, then I must suck, because these guys rip huge holes in my tactical squads. Plus, how can you guarantee what army you'll be playing, you going to change lists everytime you play?
I played against a Noise marine heavy army with my Plague army 2 weeks ago and got destroyed in short order, the sheer volume of shots he was throwing out was terrifying,

10 NM with 8 sonics a blastmaster and IoE is 264pts a bargain considering your putting out 24 bolter shots and a str8 Ap3 blast that ignores cover now a 10 man CSM squad with MOS and IoE plus 2 special wepons is about 220pts (ish i haven't got my dex with me) however as NM are fearless they don't need a HQ to babysit them so NM are actually bettet value even with SB's 3 10 man squads is quite viable at 1500pts 3 squads will dish out 72 denys cover bolter shots plus 3 str 8 AP3 blasts add to that a 3+ armour save and FNP and it gives you the best mid range shooters in the game against 3+ and even 2+ saves the sheer volume of fire means that a prolonged fire fight is going to see only 1 winner and against guard a pair of NM squads can rip apart a platoon in a turn and take anything the Guardsmen throw back the only race capable of dealing with them firepower wise is tau because of superior range add to this the fact that they are decent in CC makes them one of the top 3 troops choices in the game
