If you use Rhinos/Razorbacks, just make sure you keep your original plan in mind and keep moving the marines forward after their transport is inevitably destroyed...I don't know what it is but for some reason after people get their Rhinos destroyed they change their minds and trade shots at 18" instead of closing the rest of the distance. If you're going for the rush I'd say use Rhinos and move the full 12"+6", you'll probably lose the tanks but your marines will be right where they need to be (you're doing the space marine version of the tau "fish of fury"). Using Razorbacks has the advantage being able to throw out a little extra firepower but you risk not getting your marines as close as you want on that initial move and you lose some transport capacity.

so, in essence...

"Damn the lascannons! full speed ahead!"

Sounds more like "Box of Rage!" Its a fish of fury w/ space marines.

Rhinos and Razorbacks come with smoke launchers stock, so that can help you get closer to those shootier armies. Sure, you lose some shots (snap shots anyway) or the flat-out, but it can gain you an extra round on your transport.

Probably works best in smaller games though, I haven't really played big ones so I can't comment on that.

I think smoke or flat out is same save, so may as well go for the 18' move? (sorry, don't have bbrb with me?)

More and more I come to see the similarities of 40k with Chess, in that you have to be able to think ahead a turn or two and know the movement and capabilities of the pieces, or units, across from you. Being able to measure has taken a lot of the guess work out of this now, but its still the logic of "if you move unit x this far on your turn and then on their turn if they move unit y so far, and they can just shoot/assault you to death, that's bad!" I try to stick to these basic philosophies lately, first: "do not deploy or move into a situation where you will just take shots for no reason". This seems obvious, but is easy to overlook and adhering to it is harder than not! Second: always stick to cover! Check your lines of sight and potential alleys of fire, taking into account the advise above, when you do move. Really get down there and try to "see" the best way to sneak up on your "prey"! However, if you must 'expose' your self, do it in force, and with "bait"! That is, make it so they have so many more tempting/dangerous, targets to choose from that the little squad of Sternguard in that Razorback will sneak up the flank unmolested if your lucky enough? Even then, with Marines, its mostly to get into double tap rapid fire, or melta range anyway? Just repeating these mantra to myself has really paid off for me recently though, ultimately leading to several successful assaults where in years past I would have succumbed to fire whilst rumbling & bumbling up the field looking to just charge something!

Opponents ignoring sternguard is beaten gold.

Having said that its a mixed blessing if one of your two scoring units instead takes 6 heavy bolters..

@Dagger: I checked the rulebook. Flat-out move doesn't give vehicles a save, it just makes the Jink save better, but SM transports don't have that special rule.

Why would you hide the Land Raider's AV14 side armor with the Vindicators' AV11 side armor?

It is known that vindicators are much cheaper than Land Raiders. In today's regular/suicide melta world, even land raiders aren't safe. I'd rather have a rhino take a melta shot instead of a vindicator, but still i'd rather something else take a turn 1 death than my land raider w/ assault terminators in it. 35 points dying to save a 475 point monster is good in my book.

I didn't mean hidint, I meant supporting the Land raider
