I pretty much only read stories that involve Titans or Mars now. After that, they're pretty meh with the exception of Helsreach. Now THAT was a story!

Yes, to each their own. Once you understand that the Primarchs had a huge royal rumble on earth in which the Emperor killed his son in an effort to save the empire [you will understand the setting (or something along those lines. Not really sure how he meant that to end)]. I love reading about the Horus Heresy, or how an ork blows up a battle tank with a landmine. The illustration, background, themes, and fans all make it worth it for me.

If we're looking at books, another suggestion is Last Chancers. It really is a must read, just because it is so well written.

Hopefully we can all understand it now.

Fantasy wise I meant LoTR, Wheel of Time, Wizard's First Rule etc... I've read some Sci-Fi also Dune, Ender's Game series.

I've always played D&D and think that setting just suits me more. Who doesn't love knights and magic and stuff?

I do enjoy the game, just not the stories. Are there any orc or tyranid books?

The funny thing about this statement for me is. I haven't read barely any sci-fi. I only read tolkien, wheel of time, wizards first rule, song of ice and fire, and other medieval type fantasy. with the exception of 40k stuff haha. This is the only sci-fi I'm into really, but when I say I'm into it I mean REALLY into it. The fluff behind 40k for me is the best especially the great crusade and heresy.

That would explain why you like it. 40k isn't really science fiction so much as science fantasy.

Science fiction at least pretends to use hard facts to try and rationalize it and make it believable. The Halo books (based on the video game), the original Starship troopers book (which many credit to putting the genre on the map) and books like Sphere and Jurassic Park are all examples of this.

40k is more of a science fantasy. What I mean is, if you asked "How does a lasgun work?" They'll essentially say "Magic, now stop asking" and move on. Sure, they'll say "oh it fires whatchamakallits from the gizmos and stuff." but it's mostly pulled outta their arse and doesn't have a lot of thought behind it. Best example of science fantasy that I've heard of would be Star Wars (at least the movies) as they seem to follow a similar pattern.

The only good ones are the Chaos and Eldar books, the problem with the Imperials is their just too brainwashed into the all hail the Emperor stuff, the Astartes especially are one dimensional, the Imperial Guard are two dimensional, caught between the fact that they can either die in a war they don't understand and the fact that if they retreat a Commissar will shoot them.
