Navigator will not help if you jump early. Its the warp field and entering the warp itself you mess with, not navigation.

That ship if I recall ran and ran a long long way being chased the whole time before it jumped.

Certainty of death or a 1% chance to live...I like those odd. I'l just have to figure a way to get them as close to the edge as possible before the jump, still going to be dangerous though.

Didn't the einstien do an in system jump. She was badly damaged before hand, but she made it. Was it luck, a good navigator or fluff armour do you think?

Plot armour, I believe the navigator wasn't anything special on that ship.

One thing you could say is that they attempted a warp jump at one of the system's lagrange points. The space there is relatively 'flat' but it's a moving point and 'small' I guess you could say, so that could give you the wiggle room to let them get away with an in-system jump, while also explaining any damage that would result. Plus it gives a chance to show off tricky smarts and mad piloting skills.

Thanks dave but I'm going to keep it relitively simple as while I do like a bit of science, most people just want to read a story with out breaking off and reading a thesis to understand it. Thanks for your imput though, it reminds me why I ask these questions on dakka.

Come into my web, said the spider to the fly.
Come rest your wings, and let us talk eye to eye.
For I am a spider, and you are the fly. Now that you are here, let us sit, and say hi.
But I have have no morsel to share, nor anything to eat. But wait, what is that stickiness upon your feet.
Ah now I have you, now I can eat. Now I can enjoy you, or store you as meat.

Anyone ever read the books The Mirrored Heavens or The Burning Skies by Homeworld/2 writer David J. Williams? I had a crash course in orbital physics because of them. lol.

You could maybe have them running for the closest Lagrange Point and doing an emergency jump from there to minimize the risk.
In basic layman terms a point between the planet and the star where the gravity 'pulls' from them cancel each other out. (More precisely, the Lagrange Points mark positions where the gravitational pull of the two large masses precisely cancels the centripetal acceleration required to rotate with them, but meh.)

Yes Deadricbob, but you just saved me a looong read, and gave me a way to simply and a little technically explain it to readers. cheers

Sorry Dave, your orginal point and sergestion is still valid, it's just I'm feeling lazy today to do more than I.....

No worries, laziness is it's own reward.

Well I am not sure what they have got into they can not outrun or outfight. But if they 100% must jump I would let em, but twist the hell out of the Hull, take mass deaths and make sure they understand it some-thing they should never, ever try again.

A space hulk and a sizable ork fleet that got the jump on them and after a space battle not going their way it's the only option to escape alive.

I'm going to get them to do a emergency lagrange point jump to minimize the damage done though. I still need them to fight later but need them out the picture for a while until they do some repairs.

Certainty of death, small chance of success...What are you waiting for?

They should be able to outrun the hulk with ease. Some of the smaller ork ships will be fast enough to catch them but anything they can not out fight and not catch them.

Exactly. If they can't outrun it, they can outfight it. Just use the speed measurements from BFG to see what they can and can't outrun/outfight.

I believe there was a ship that jumped out of the warp in The Emperor's Gift, it was badly damaged because of it, but I think it was relatively "safe"
