I'm assuming you also installed several gigabytes worth of mods as well then.

I think he means more that he installed the game, and lost the rest of his day to playing the game.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

Morrowind was and always will be awesome.

It cried out for modding though, and Bethesda delivered. However its a tribute to Morrowind that the main game and backstory remains unchanged in most mods.

Morrowind is not a dumbed down game, and its surprising how twelve years on the features that make it not a dumbed down game are thoe people complain about here.

No fast travel - great, enjoy exploring
'boring' main quest - I say deep immersive background
limited mana - cast spells wisely
alchemy bug - dont abuse it, or mod it away
'confusing' capital - mysterious architecture
difficult opponents in open play (low level) - this isn't an FPS

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion. By the juice of the brew my thoughts aquire speed, my mind becomes strained, the strain becomes a warning. It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion.

I'm thinking about installing it again, but getting some graphics mods to make it a better more bearable lol.

My favorite titbit about the backstory of the series in hind site has been this: (Quote Tv Tropes)

"No Fourth Wall: Although the language used to explain it is overflowing with metaphor, the player's character actually IS informed through the Sermons of Vivec and partially by the actions of Vivec himself that he/she is a video game character being controlled by a person outside the world they are acting in.
This pretty much what the in universe notion of CHIM is. Understanding that you are a dream of the godhead. Once you shatter the metaphysical fourth wall (and if you manage to keep yourself from basically blinking out of existence when you do), you become a god."

Vivec actually only achieved his godhood because he realized he was in a game and decided he wanted to be one. Oh and lots of save scumming (...no really).

So many good memories of this game. You kids have it too good with your Skyrims and Insta-Travels and your flingamajingas and soul-born-language-based-attacks. Back in my day we had to cross Tamriel on foot, with a bad case of Rockjoint, armour made of Netch hide, and hope to gods we didn't run out of arrows in the middle of Cliff Racer territory. By the Nine those were the days. Sure we might come across a Stilt Strider occasionally, but that was basically sitting the the hollowed out guts of a giant cockroach... Not exactly travelling in style huh? Plus we had Pauldrons. I bet you kids don't even know what a Pauldron is, do ya? eh? A time when men were Nords and elves were dark!

Now I remember this one time, we were heading from Balmora to Vivec when... *slowly drifts off to sleep, drooling and mumbling*

More like the novel Redshirts (where the lead characters realise their the guys that die five minutes into an episode) where the characters realise their just NPCs and decide that they can live with that. Also having a large amount of genre savviness of course, well enough to exploit the ingrained mechanics of the world they live in.

...It is rather silly that Bethesda spelled this out though in "What is Chim" and the thirty something sermons of Vivec (their just him saying how great and godlike he is, and because he said that their events happened they actually did...). Your mind exploded yet? =)

imo, it's better without mods. The environment still looks decent and has really stood the test of time. The characters and animations are dated, hell they weren't even good at release, but ASFAIK no mods fix the animation issues and all the model replacers/skins/textures clash with the original game and other mods. Oblivion and Skyrim have the same problem primarily because the most prolific modders seem to be bit perverse.

Don't forget Alamsivi (sp?) and Divine Intervention. If it doesn't put you close to where you want to be, it puts you close to a silt strider.

Streamlining repetitive tasks and fixing glaring deficiencies do not amount to 'dumbing down' no matter what clever semantics you want to apply.
