I wouldn't call Hammer of the Emperor a 'shop' book, although the armoury is very good.

Ok I may be stuck in a kind of 'Dark Heresy, get lots of skills so your party can manage anything' mode (atleast that is how I like to play), but is it normal for squads to have far more limited abilities? If you take my guy out (dead or what have you), the squad suddenly loses all operate (surface) ability, tech-use, security and common lore (tech). This leaves them with medicae and command basically.

Would this be much of a problem? Or should they handle it fine with their focus on combat?

I wish I had time for all the game systems I own, let alone want to own...

That's like that. The squad's medic goes down, and suddenly people are improvising. The squad's radioman goes down, and everyone's pressing buttons and turning dials in the hope it starts working. Lose the squads demo-man and... well... let's all try to figure out how detonators work without blowing ourselves up!

It makes sense though, you can't expect Guardsmen to be as bright and learned as a bunch of acolytes or the command crew of a Rogue Trader vessel.

Though it will be fun once I get the XP to get a few levels in trade: cooking with my commissar. Pointless yes, but my demeanour demands this.
