Becuase the lascannon is less then an inch from the sponson and the sponson exists on the model so your model must be 1" away from the sponson.

As a side note, if this is a Tornament, Talk to the TO...
If this isn't you should be allowed to move your LR a reasonable about so you can shoot the dread, if the duche says no, just pack up your stuff because it's not worth playing TFG

A lascannon barrel (GH pattern) is much longer than an inch. It is possible to be 1" away from the sponson and for you to still be in the way of the barrel trying to swing past you, as it describes an arc with a >1" radius
