I think it's impressive that Roboute was found so late, yet did so much.
I guess, considering the old fluff of the Space Wolves having conquered the most planets (although that now being the Luna Wolves and Ultramarines), Russ being found 2nd makes sense.

Actually, old fluff was Horus, Johnson, Russ, in that order, and count was regarding victory tally, not planets brought into the Imperium. Since Guilliman is stated to have brought a lot of worlds in through diplomacy rather than brute force, that opens a window to keep the two from contradicting each other.
Ie, Guilliman brought more worlds into the Imperium, but only X percentage of that was violent conversion, so Russ, whose percentage of violent conversions was (much?) higher comes out on top where military victories are concerned.

I do, however, believe that old fluff has Johnson found as one of the first Primarchs. Or maybe I'm confused with the Dark Angels being the first Legion founded from any Primarch's geneseed, but not the first (or even one of the earliest) Legions to be re-united with their Primarch. Since I left my codices at home, I can't check for at least another two weeks.

QFT - but they changed fluff 10 000 times, so that everybody can be right and wrong about their claims....

ADB: I showed the Wolves revealing the key weakness at the heart of the World Eaters; showing Angron that his Legion was broken and worthless compared to the others; that he was the one primarch who couldn't trust his own warriors, and that they didn't care if he lived or died; showing that loyalty to brothers and sons is the heart of success for the Legiones Astartes, to the point even Lorgar makes a big deal out of saying the World Eaters and their primarch were massively outclassed by Russ, and Angron was too stupid to see the lesson Russ had sacrificed time, sweat, and blood, to teach. We're talking about a battle the Wolves won, by isolating the enemy general through pack tactics, and threatening to kill him, without a hope of defending himself. It was a balance, 50/50 - Angron overpowered Russ, and the Wolves were losing ground to the World Eaters; but Russ and his warriors had Angron by the balls, and barely broke a sweat. They won, no question. Lorgar even says: "The Wolves won, meathead."

Dorn won’t help you either. He’s too busy being the Emperor’s groundskeeper, hiding behind the palace walls. The Wolf is too busy cutting off heads as our father’s executioner, while the Lion holds on to his secrets, and has no special fondness for you. Who else will come? Not Ferrus, certainly. Nor Corax either. Even as we speak, I suspect he flees for Deliverance. Sanguinius?’ Curze laughed cruelly. ‘The angel is more cursed than I. The Khan? He does not wish to be found. So who is left? No one, Vulkan. None of them will come. You are simply not that important. You are alone.’ Konrad Curze to Vulkan

The HH and the way in which they are simply never spoken of and avoided being spoke of as a plague, makes it seems they were around and did something that was such a big issue they have been forever removed.

I say all where alive and kicking when found.

Then how could the Emperor know that Corax was one of only 18 primarchs when he first found him, if the second missing primarch hadn't been found yet? They're referred to as the purged and the forgotten. My theory is the first one was purged, but the second one left no legacy at all. It's possible that his legion suffered a mutation and without their primarch they all died out. This almost happened with the Emperor's Children and the Thousand Sons before their primarchs were found.

Well, that one's pretty simple. Number II was obviously already dead. However, by the time the Emperor picked up Corax he had "forgotten" about that other one. Because He didn't like to be contradicted (which is why number II was "purged") the rest of them decided it would be a good idea to never bring it up again. Technically, the Forgotten is still out there on some backwards planet that doesn't have space travel capabilities and has never known who his father is but no one would even know where to start looking. Tragic really.
