Back in the English morass

Brettonia didn't really exist in 4th ed. They had an army list in ravening Hordes (?) but were basically on the backburner and pretty much forgotten about. They were in a similar position to the Squats in 2nd ed 40k.

The 5th ed army book essentially recreated Brettonia to the extent that they were almost a new army.

The prefect example of someone missing the point.
Do not underestimate the Squats. They survived for millenia cut off from the Imperium and assailed on all sides. Their determination and resilience is an example to us all.

Its just a shame that they couldn't fight off Andy Chambers.

On the upside, 9th ed on the horizon means I can hope against hope that they don't touch Dwarfs for 8th, and really hope that the design paradigm shifts regarding Magic Items so the Rune system doesn't get butchered...

This is, emphatically, why I will continue suggesting nuking Guard and starting over again. It's a legacy army that needs to be rebooted with a new focal point.

Confirmation of why no-one should listen to Kanluwen when it comes to the IG - he doesn't want the IG, he want's Kan's New Model Army...

Don't worry dwarves and bretonnians are perfect for the monstrous cav loving eighth edition. Coming soon bretonnian megasus and dwarven badger riders.

2014? Awesome. Can't wait to see the updated rules for WE. Those should be out what... 2015 then? 2016 LATEST? Awesome, I'd better get painting then!

My honest prediction is that every book will be updated for 8th ed by 2014 except WE and MAYBE Dwarves, then we will see 8th ed books getting the 9e treatment, THEN those two will get update. OR we will see WE get the last 8e release, then 9e will come out and marginalize it once more. As a final prediction that marginalization will make no sense as the irony will be that the 6e WE book will have been more balanced for 9e than the 8e book will be.

It bothers me that of the 6 8e books we've gotten so far, 4 were already updated in 7e, and only 2 were still languishing under 6e rules. One of those were, by all accounts, doing fantastically well under the new edition (OK) and were less in need of a fix than, say, Brets or WE. The release schedule really should have been more like: Brets, TK (needing an update sooner to bring their oddball magic system in line,) WE, Dwarves, VC (Because 8th nerfed them to near unplayability, but most VC players could have waited after their lofty 7e position,) and Daemons (Because those things are still stupid powerful.) Then OK can be next. Unless of course I'm mistaking how well OK were doing early 8e. Every skilled OK player I saw were gobbling up their opponants like so many tasty gnoblars.

6th edition lands on June 23rd!

Good news. This is the best time in the hobby. Full of promise. GW lets us down each time and we know it but secretly we're hoping that this is the edition that GW gives us a balanced game that can also be played competitively at tournaments. I'm loving it.

Given this is a year and a half or so off, that would leave time for 4-6 more army book updates (assuming one every 3 months or so, and not including the imminent WoC update in that tally). So, if they pushed and squeezed an extra one or two in, they could just about update all the forces in that time. Don't know what the rumours are for upcoming WHFB armies after WoC.

Bah, I still havent primed my Battle for Skull Pass Minis!

I still have my 5th ed Brettonians on their sprues (somewhere...)

I recently got around to assembling and painting my High Elf archers from 4th edition! I actually prefer those one-piece archers and spearmen to the current plastic equivalents.
