I thought the movie was okay.

Not as good as Damnatus (which captured the gothic weirdness of the 40k setting much better), but definitely watchable.

If only they'd made that bloodquest movie based on the comics instead of canning the project, that could have been great. Sexy vampire muscle dudes could have even attracted a female audience.

Need more live action and less CGI!

Utter, utter garbage. Worse than Battlefield Earth or the first Judge Dredd film...

...or The Sweeney for that matter.

"Bloody typical, they've gone back to metric without telling us."

"As the days go by, we face the increasing inevitability that we are alone in a godless, uninhabited, hostile and meaningless universe. Still, you've got to laugh haven't you?"

"We demand rigidly defined areas of doubt and uncertainty!"

"Mind the oranges Marlon!"

Drinking game! Take a shot whenever anyone treats the apothecary like gak.

Sips at chaos, any single word said in an authoritative tone or any time someone is skeptical.

Well I was going to pass on it, but now that there's a drinking game...

Leaving aside whether the film was good or not, the thing that struck me when it first came out was that I seemed to see hardly any promotion of it from GW themselves in shops, WD, etc. Ditto when Space Marine (the game) came out.

I would have thought that with more competitors than ever, GW would have been all over that kind of thing. It's quite mystifyingto see how unwilling they sometimes are to take an opportunity to get more people interested.

Driven away from WH40K by rules bloat and the expense of keeping up, now interested in smaller model count games and anything with nifty mechanics.

The movie was an utter POS in the original version, and BlueRay for the boys in blue won't be any different.

I'm glad that some folks found a use for it, but I won't be flushing my money for this turd.

Horrible....

My problem with this film was that the plot suited a short story and felt badly shoe-horned to fit a movie.
They went for a suspense film, rather than action. The state of the cgi meant I couldn't take it seriously enough to build suspense.
I got the collectors edition - I've watched it a couple of times. I quite enjoyed it tbh - but my taste in films is special effects, big monsters and comedy. They managed to combine the former and the latter into 1 film where the effects were complete comedy.
They should make the video from the Dawn of War games into a film. The animation was certainly better.

I admit it, I did too. And yeah, it was bad. Definitely don't regret not getting the "collector's edition" or whatever they were hawking at the time.

They really don't seem to care about the license stuff. Like whut, Armorcast made some tanks. Okay sure, we'll give them a page in WD. 40K RPG and Death Angel card game, the various video games like Chaos Gate and Fire Warrior. Sure we'll gibe you a plug in *one* issue of WD, whatever.

If they were smart, they'd expand the brand through video game and movies, but they're dumb so they won't

This. I reviewed it back in the day, and what grabbed was that it seemed like an extended episode of The Outer Limits. If they had made an episodes of this and turned it into a TV show, I would watch. But as a movie, it's painfully stretched out.

This is one movie that will NOT benefit from being on Blu-ray...

GW actually did a fair bit of promotion for Fire Warrior. - I think it was even in store for a while.

They had an issue where they made a board based on the first level of it. Then the next month they had a battle report based on it.

Even the "fire warrior with rail rifle" model was created to promote the game, with rules added into white dwarf.

Sadly the studio was massively incompetent and forgot to include the VOICE ACTING on the pc version of the game.

I bought the original collectors edition for that same reason, it was absolutely fething awful.

Curse me for being sentimental, id rather have watched my dog get ran over.

I did as well, partly because of the above, partly because it awoke the dream in me from when the movie was first promised in like WD 130 or whatever

The Dawn of War games had far better animation and voice acting. They should have gotten Relic to make this. Or maybe just recorded John Hurt playing Space Marine for an hour and slapped that on DVD.

They should bury this movie, not rerelease it. It's an embarrassment to GW.

All this hate and criticism made me wonder what IMDb gave the film. So I checked. And the answer was quite shocking.

5.6. A whole five point six. For what is actually a pretty harsh rating system, that's pretty good. Kinda makes me lose faith in the credibility of movie critics sometimes...

Was just going to say this. The DoW/DoW2 FMV's were superior in almost every aspect.
Which is a real shame as they did have some good voice actors for 'Ultramarines'.

Don't buy it though, mail GW telling them you loved the idea but the execution didn't deserve your money.

It's actually explained in the extras of the "collectors" edition. Basically, his grandson played 40k and whined at him until he agreed to do it.

The level of quality attained by the Dawn of War and Dawn of War II opening cinematics would unfortunately most likely be cost-prohibitive for a full length film.

I got around to watch it last week. After what I've read on the internets, I was pleasantly surprised, actually. Not something I'd watch more than once, or even describe as a good movie, but it was ... okay. At least I felt entertained, and it was sufficient to get us into the right mood for a game of Deathwatch.

Not gonna lie I'm probly gonna grab this. This movie has recently fallen into the "so bad it's good" file. The terrible acting and dialogue is hilarious. It's great.

I also thought it was an okay movie given the topic. But then again, I didn't expect character development or great dialogues other than brother-kill-die and for-the-emperor. Astonished that Abnett was the author of this Aliens-plot-clone though.
