As a DA player if I'm writing a tourney list you can be certain that I'm taking Belial with a shooty termie squad, not only is that just a good unit in general it can take a ADL and turn it on the owner ridiculously easily. In a gunline army I can see the purpose, but unless your list is built around waiting for the enemy to come to you I don't see the use of it

Well, the ADL can have a place in a DA army. For this, I'd set up the ADL towards the center and put two Tacticals behind and a Cmd squad with the banner of devastation. Termies and Bikers could then be used to intercept enemy units threatening your front ranks.

Actually, I've played my friend in 4 games now, with him running that exact same setup. It doesn't work- the aegis isn't long enough to protect from flank attacks without getting bunched up for blasts, and it provides absolutely no benefit from plain old volume of fire. The quad gun just added one or two hull points, or killed a couple infantry, or put one or two wounds on an MC. My friend is a much better player than I am, and yet I tabled him on my t4 with pure Tau, in a "for fun" list. The aegis didn't protect his marines from the tyranids I played either. If you're buying it for the quad gun, don't expect it to pull much weight. I find it's best at helping kill say a drop pod, or rhino. Maybe an av-11 flyer.
