Every time I hear "in my opinion" or "just my opinion" makes me want to strangle a puppy. People use their opinions as a shield that other poeple can't critisize and that is bs.
If you can't defend or won't defend your opinion then that "opinion" is bs. Stop trying to tip-toe and defend what you believe in.
Its all pancakes. I would call any of the flat things mentioned in this thread pancakes. I usually just go all out and have American Pancakes for breakfast and then make some "crepes" in the evening.
I went for the classic English pancakes this year. Ever since I moved I have grown fond of American ones but I had to do pancake day properly this year! (And yes, that includes lemon and sugar of course!)
I'm like Albatross and Karl Pilkington I have a pancakes when I want to, well actually that's not entirely true since I still live at my parent's place so I just grab what's in the fridge and/or cupboard.

I grew up with American pancakes, of course, but have come to favor crepes, and am a pretty fair hand at making them. Real maple syrup is still the mandatory accompaniment, however. One sorrow I have when visiting my in-laws is that my mother in law makes huge lovely stacks of eggy crepes, but they only have honey for them over there.
Lemon stuff sounds interesting, though.
Swedish pancakes with lingonberry preserves are also quite nice.

We're not celebrating the day.
It's just as excuse for pancakes.
Like at Xmas. Pressies and a party. No need to mention the 'real' reason.
When you hear "Yule", what do you think? Logs, not darkness and candles, I bet.
A true pancake should be smothered in molten chocolate sauce and washed down with lashings of cider. I do not akcnoledge the exsistence of these heretcal savoury pancakes

Pancake day (shrove tuesday) is an anachronism. It was to use everything up at the start of lent - which is supposed to be a period of self denial to represent Jesus wandering in the desert.
A small meal was eaten in the evening with no vegetables... I'm sure this was in no way due to the fact it's really hard to grow veg in feb...
With the worldwide trade in food, we can now eat pretty much whatever we want, when we want.
Is there any need for pancake day anymore?
Its because ordinance is still a word.
However, firing ordinance at someone isn't nearly as threatening as firing ordnance at someone.
Ordinance is a local law, or bill, or other form of legislation.
Ordnance is high caliber explosives.
No 'I' in ordnance.
Don't drown the enemy in legislation, drown them in explosives.

BLASPHEMY!
I got them in holland - everyone should try them at least once. Or in my case, many times...

In all honesty, why pancakes? If you want something made out of flour, then go for Black Forest Gateau!

So english pancakes (thicker than crepes but still not fluffy, tend to be pretty oily) are actually pretty good with cointreau on top... And I found that mixing Advocaat into the batter also works well.

Never heard of it, but I'll keep my eye out for it.
There's a small restaurant chain in Pittsburgh called Pamela's that makes delicious pancakes that are halfway between a traditional American pancake and a crepe. So maybe it's something closer to the English pancake, although the toppings, etc. are still American. Obama liked them so much while campaigning in the area that he had them cater a breakfast at the White House after he became POTUS.

Works with the spirit or liqueur of your choice. Personaly I like a bit of creme de cassis over the top and a dask of whisky in the batter. Even better if you cut down on the flour, eggs & milk. Infact remove them completly.
I see nothing wrong with savoury pancakes, as long as it is not at the cost of sweet. The best savoury for me is creamy chicken and mushroom. Then for pudding jif lemon (Do not confuse with lemon jif) & sugar. Possibly with a scoop of ice cream, although this is not mandatory.
