Neither of these things are budgets....

They are more like policy statements? Facebook likes? An excuse to have a press conference? Base bait?

I don't know, what they are; but I know that they aren't budgets.

House passed the Continuing Resolution for '13 and passed Ryan's budget for '14.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/post-politics/wp/2013/03/21/house-passes-continuing-resolution-ryan-budget/
The House on Thursday morning voted to pass a continuing resolution that would fund the government for the next six months and also passed Rep. Paul Ryan’s (R-Wis.) budget.
The continuing resolution, which passed easily in the Senate on Wednesday and will prevent the government from shutting down later this month, passed 318-109.
The Ryan budget passed 221-207, with 10 Republicans and every Democrat voting against it.
The Ryan budget aims to balance the budget over the next decade, including nearly $5 trillion in spending cuts. Senate Democrats have their own budget, and neither is expected to clear both chambers.

Couple of things I've noticed regarding Ryan's plan:
-Then plan increases federal spending by an average of 3.4 percent per year (as opposed to 5 percent), saves Medicare, and balances. Yet, the Democrats are out swinging that this is a massive cut in spending... o.O

-Supposedly, the Ryan plan would balance the budget in 10 years. That's nice an all, but what I don't understand is how anyone can really do this... the HOUSE changes every 2 years, and the SENATE changes every 4 years... future Congress don't like to have their hands tied. The only way this will ever be balanced, or close to it, is via Constitutional amendment... otherwise, they're bloviating.

-The plan would defund the ACA provision starting at '14. WTF? It also leaves in the rules AND the current taxes. Sloppy.... very, sloppy and definitely the poison pill.

-Hey... only Republicans voted for this bill... that's bad...right? Newsflash, only Democrats voted for the ACA bill...

Now what?

I'm a lawyer, just tell me the number you want. I'll make it happen. Even numbers are just a matter of perspective.

Yes I didn't mention the 40% "charitable contribution" to the Loyal Order of Wiener Dogs.

$100,000,000,000.

There you go, there's you number as requested. Hell, I'll even go a step further and make it look like this;

"The estimated savings from the current proposal, over the next ten years are $100,000,000,000."

The catch, unfortunately, is that just saying the number doesn't make it real. But still, it's a lucrative business.

That'll cost you $10,000, by the way.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

You know why? Neither budget included my recommendation of $1mm for "Frazzled's funky disco lounge."

If only they had listened.

What did you want?

House - "Hey, Senate, here's a Republican bill that's a big list of things that Republicans love."
Senate - "We are Democrat controlled and don't like those things, so no."

Just imagine what the commentators would say-

Sarah Palin- "Ever since the Democrats tried to put death panels in the Obamacare budget, it is hardly surprising they're at it again with crazy ideas that common sense Americas would find appalling.

Chris Matthews- "When I read the Democrat proposal, I had a thrill running down my leg; this was the budget Americans wanted but again Republicans derailed with their do nothing and say no to everything politics."

Jon Steward- *insert funny skit of how asinine both sides really are*

Steven Colbert- *slightly less funny skit of what Jon Steward themes*

We always get back to that, and every time we do I say you can't just call for people to work together. You've actually got to look at the substance of what both sides are offering.

And perhaps consider that the people in office are not the root of the problem.

Very true.

Expand that out to the stakeholders and then we're on our way.
