I'm not entirely sure that in these days of $75 Land Raiders that GW doesn't simply think that everyone who is "appropriately" playing their games should be doing that gaming on the Realm of Battle boards instead of fabric mats - price difference be damned.
This is the same company that thinks this:
should cost 712 dollars.
How much should it cost? $50?
Thirty bucks for each of the vehicles, $1-$1.25 for each infantry figure, maybe $8-10 for the crisis suits. Even with import costs and advanced tooling Gundam figures don't sell for nearly that much.

I looked on the Canadian site 5 min ago and it was there. I just looked agien after seeing AduroT's post it's now no longer available to be ordered. But it still shows on the website.
Just to toss out their.
That mat was $45 CAD
A realm of battle board is $348 CAD.
The only Realm of battle boards I've seen in the wild are ones owned by FLGS's for the public to play on. Never seen anyone who owned one personally.

My FLGS has a battle mat kicking around, hidden under a table, I might get it one of these days for use at home, especially if they're no longer available.
The RoB never appealed to me; too expensive, not very good quality, models fall over constantly on it, and it's hard to make themed boards on it.
|
Therefore, I conclude, Valve should announce Half Life 2: Episode 3.

Glue flock or sand to the sloped hills.

It worked for my FLGS and fixed the issue.
I do like the Realm of Battle board, I just don't $400 like it. lol Would rather just make my own board at that price.
Heck, at that prince you could make a nice wargameing table with built in shelfs to hold armies, dice, books, ect well you play.

And that's just it, if they're going to charge an astronomical price, I expect from GW passable quality, and the RoB isn't even that.
I don't like its aesthetic, functionality or usability. Hence, our group is going to buy some of those Secret Weapon tablescapes, and just build a new wooden table with drawers and cupboards and the like for about the same price.
