It was good until the part about eBay making any sort of agreement with GW. Unlike GW, eBay actually likes it when the money rolls in.

I must admit that I fell for this completely until I was reminded of the date.
As to the plausibility, ebay removes listings for a variety of reasons, I have had OEM software removed from ebay due to some OEM software foundation that trawls ebay for listings to complain about. So not entirely implausible.
