Subject: eBay to prohibt the sale of GW and Citadel products
So, yesterday I was trying to list some GW stuff for sale on ebay and couldn't find the categories in the listing. Confused, I e-mailed ebay support and today received this response:
Hi there!
Yes, that's correct, the categories have been removed as part of a pilot rollout that affect a limited number of eBay users. A more detailed announcement will be going out soon, but in general terms, we have been approached and agreed to a request from Games Workshop to prevent the selling and re-selling of their products on eBay both old and new.
This change in eBay policy will start taking effect over the next couple of weeks and will be implemented across all eBay users. Existing auctions will be allowed to run their course and Buy It Now listings, once expired, will not be permitted to be re-listed.
Regards
- The eBay Team
Looks like I'll be heading to ebid, but it won't be long before they are "Approached"... If you can, I suggest you get listing your auctions sooner and buying your bits now rather than later before the banhammer comes into force...

Why the hell would they agree to such a request? It doesn't benefit them in any way, there's no leverage GW can exert on eBay, and there is nothing illegal going on.

Its an April fools joke people, have a sense of humour. It only happens once a year. And as far as these goes its not a bad one. Had me going for a second. Well one OP.

Motion to ban all Necrons who have no sense of humour from Dakka ?
Seriously though, there have been some absolute crackers in the past, and putting some in OT automatically spoils the fun..
The problem is that over the past couple of years GW have enacted what many would regard as 1st April worthy policies at various points throughout the year, with the difference being that they've actually been real and not a scam or joke. Perhaps the rather punch-drunk fanbase have just lost the taste for any more jokes, and so there hasn't been the level of effort this year that we have often seen in the past with photoshopped pictures and the like?
I also think that since some companies are using N&R to advertise their business and what not, starting threads here which have no purpose other than APRIL FOOLS! is a bit harsh on them since it can knock them off page 1 where they are most likely to be seen.
I wish I had time for all the game systems I own, let alone want to own...

That's what the glorious mods of Dakka are for. When the day ends all you party poopers can spam the yellow triangle and get it locked. For the good of all businesses who advertise in N&R.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

You are to old to ride a bike, GW did you a favour!
Exalted!

Same. I got caught up on the fact that GW would love to (have tried to?) do this and completly overlooked the fact eBay wouldn't allow it

The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that.
