If it were a colonization mission, complete with spouses and children, I'd probably think about it... But obviously that means a much larger group than 24 or so people

And who knows? There is always the chance that by the time the first colonists arrived on Mars that we would already have developed transport to get there in a fraction of the time. Imagine how much it would suck to be sitting in your little space rocket and see a new and improved vessel blasting past you!


...Mars is less than a year away (typically 6-8 months) if that happened then a lot more "sucks" than seeing another spacecraft blast past you...
