It seems that some people want the best of both worlds, being able to flame on any level due to being in the air, but then also being able to flame the ground level in ruins.
Really, we just want what the Torrent rule allows. The counter-argument is that a special ability granted to template weapons magically becomes a horrific restriction when you add range. The worst of both worlds, both of which are imaginary.

Anyway, since "base contact" for the Torrent is instead anywhere within 12", you can simply use the 12" to go up or down several floors, and then get an extra floor up or down based on the rule cited. Since, y'know, that's what the rule is: you get an extra floor. Not a restriction at all.

I was not aware of the situation..
If you agree on the level it can hit with your opponent beforehand, you can possibly place objectives and troops accordingly and never fear the beast!!

Except when it drops into hover mode in turn 5 and kills them all. =(

So then you would also account for the 3" per floor that you would also have to measure up?

The Torrent rule allows placement 12" away and the template rule places a restriction on that 12" rule. Pretty simple and straightforward since the Flyer is not jump/skimmer unless in hover mode.

If you are jumping on the Dinobot meme bandwagon regarding the new Warhammer 40k Chaos models, grow the feth up!
