If retail price (high as it is) is the worst deal you've seen on this hobby, you obviously haven't spent enough time on eBay

Best - I recently got a falcon on ebay for £10 inc p&p and 10 guardians with weapon platform for £4 inc p&p so pretty happy with that. I also managed to get 3 plastic war walkers for £24 which made me very happy!

Worst - Not had one yet really but the ogre firebelly I got for £18 on ebay which turned up with the weapon snapped in half didn't please me much.

Got a full, 90% plastic, unpainted GK army with Sabol transport bag for $202.

Ballpark, it had something like:

30 GKSS, half with swords half with halberds, couple with hammers
A couple HQ's (Draigo, librarian, Stern, some others)
22 Terminators, all magnetized with extra bits (these alone are worth more than $200)
Full sprues for all the parts that weren't used in assembly.
Everything in foam in a sabol transport bag

All in pristine condition.

Oh I clearly misread the title. Everyone seems to be posting what their own experiences have been. I've seen plenty of laughable stuff on ebay, but I was referring to what I've personally spent.

Best- 3 huge boxes of random Warhammer 40k, most primed and painted badly. But each box was at least half a metre by half a metre, and each box was stuffed to the brim. There were buildings, orks, eldar, tyranids, space marines, scenery, grass, paint and brushes. And the best bit? FFFRRREEE!!!!

Worst- 1 single Space Hulk terminator for £100.

For £8 on ebay bought a sack of random 40k bits, it contained over 20 metal space wolves including half a dozen long fangs, bjorn the fell handed minus back banner which I would have cut anyway, all imperial assassins including both vindicares, baharoth and jain zar, 3 old eldar rangers, three wraithguard, one of those gretchin rocket things and a complete doom diver, plus loads of other bits I'm still using for conversions a couple of years later.

A couple of quid on ebay bought a box of broken empire knights, nothing usable except a lot of horses, a few weeks later bought another box of scraps and found when I put the two together I could make 22 knights and 5 knights of the white wolf plus a few spare horses, the boxes matched up almost perfectly despite coming from different sellers.

Bought the LotR dragon for £7, the seller contacted me after to say his son had lost the front leg and included a cheque for a fiver. Unfortunately that was the weekend the bitz service stopped but I sculpted my own leg onto it.

For £70 on ebay 5 years ago; GW carry case with 4 squads of IG infantry, 2 heavy weapon squads, 1 leman russ, 1 leman russ demolisher, 1 basilisk, 2 armoured sentinels, 10 stormtroopers, complete old cadian command squad, various priest and psyker models, the ordo malleus inquisitor with the hammer and retinue, three metal grey knight terminators.

For £50 last week; GW carry case with dark angel tac squad, full dark angel metal devastator squad, ezekiel, mortis dread, metal deathwing squad, two metal DA captains and old angels of death codex (I like to collect the old codices) and all painted to a pretty near 'eavy metal standard.

Worst: I sometimes get annoyed I bought the space marine megaforce direct. I think my epic imperial guard were much too expensive but I had to have them, some dystopian wars tanks flesh them out and make me feel better. I recently got 15 catachans that had apparently been stuck together with spoonfuls of superglue and a lighter, unsalvageable. Even £3 was a waste but they came in a vintage epic eldar army box which I decided was worth it.

Oh and I sold 10 orc boyz and 10 arrer boyz on ebay, when I added it all up it had actually cost me 10p to just give a guy some orcs.

Best?

I have received several OOP models from older games who find stuff and think "Here, you could probably use this." One is a Games Day Chaos Lord, another is a really old metal Chaplain. I have received several Necron lords for free, too, because people just wanted Annihilation Barges and didn't care about the extra dude.

Best so far was $500 for a complete Sisters of Battle Army (2000+). Total retail value is $1250+. I couldn't believe it.

Worst: Sold a Chaos Daemons army full of rock solid custom conversions and good models; $100. Hooray? Thanks, Ebay...

Sold my high table top painted grey knights, 10 man strike squad for less that 30.
(I was basically scammed, it was a trade and he said he was giving me two strike squads and some other stuff. However he sent me the Dark angels half of DV but only the tac squad and terminators.) I still feel really bad about this one. But to make it a bit better I did sell my Grey Knight terminator squad for somewhere around 70$

6 Necron destroyers for $30, and a boxed Night/Doom Scythe for $15

Bought a necron battle force, 5 lychguard, 10 csm and imotekh the stormlord for under 200$ canadian including shipping from Great canadian minis when normally it would be almost 300$ without shipping the thing is it took almost 2 months to arrive and it was shipping from victoria BC to Vancouver BC! It only took me a few hours to get their last time I went including ferry time and I BIKED the rest of the way so two months is absolutely ridiculous!

A friend of mine recently got a load of SM, all caked in glue, most drowned in paint. Pretty bad shape but they were free. He asked for my help taking apart a Predator, and long story short, I have to see a plastic surgeon to fix the nerves I sliced into.
A bad deal for me, but quite good too, I'm getting the one and a half Dreadnoughts from it for free.

There was a massive, massive sale at my local Games workshop because they were closing so they had to get rid of there stock. (AUD)

Best-Bought 3 sentinels, 1 chimera/hellhound kit and 1 basilisk all for $100 but there were other guys getting like drop pods with a tactical squad for $50

Worst-Realising that I spent $45 on a random bitz bag and pretty much got all these tyranid, tau, eldar, orks and necron parts but no Imperial Guard D:

Best: pretty much anything from the dv set. Have picked up the tac squad, and librarian for $25nz, plus two sets of shooty cultists which i have converted to penal troopers for $15ea. Dv's been so good for ebay, guys buyin the set and diving it up.

Worst deal ive seen: $50 for a VERY scratch built leman russ. As in, it had a gi joe tank turret on a chimera chassis. And it was labelled as new.
