BattleCapIronblood, what do you think of our advice?

Would it work in your local meta?

What have you done, or are planning to do with your dev squads?

I'm really liking all the advice here. Thank you all. So far, my Devs remain in their boxes. I really haven't been working on my models recently, but I will crack them open during the summer hopefully. I've only played against Dark Angels, all three games since I only have one person to play with. The old group that used to play went off the face of the earth, so I have no idea how to really build up the Devs. I'm assuming if I go against power armor, its best to field PC. It seems to do a good job in the few games I've seen it being used.

And the only reason I got the Devs instead of Preds, was obviously because they are cheaper ($ wise)

Yeah, no doubt. I actually ordered the Forge World heavy weapons upgrade a while ago and just built my second squad up. $ definitely factors in, and I keep feeling like I need to buy more...dang it all. I really loved the PPPPS AG SLLLL idea above, but I only own one Plasma Cannon model. I made an extra Lascannon from one of the sponsons from the Stormraven...maybe I should make another one. I could conceivably also make Plasma Cannons from the Stormraven kit. Anyway, yeah, the WYSIWYG and my ridiculously slow painting always hold me up.

This has all been really informative for me, as I was definitely going the "mix and match" method, which does not make as much sense as the "one-two punch" strategy. The Aegis defense line is something I have seen work. What about putting an extra Bolter-marine in the unit to give it a little more bulk in terms of "wounds"? Anti-infantry tactics are the main thing that's going to hurt Devastator squads--the Fragnought springs immediately to mind, as mentioned.

Anyway, thanks to all!

Make no mistake, predators are far from invincible. But it seems a waste to field devs when BA get *fast* vehicles.

i play exclusively BA in GT's and i use 2 dev squads in all my builds and they have been very good for me.

5 man squad with 4 plasma cannon
5 man squad with 4 las cannon

what you get is a 1 - 2 punch. las cannons destroy transports - plasma cannons massacre anything transported (as clustered in destroyed vehicle footprint you get a LOT of hits).

i use them with an aegis line with a quad gun, and a sang priest.

sarges from both squads stay in B2B with quad gun. sang priest hangs back within coherency of plasma cannon squad, and close enough to help out las squad.

the other units in my army take care of infantry, and melta assault squad, with dante, take care of any high AV vehicles.

forgot to add.. the las sarge uses the quad gun - this gives 8 shots from the squads vs vehicles and infantry, and when shooting at aircraft (not from intercept) the extra 4 lascannon snapshots can sometimes be helpful.

Would it not make sense for the priest to shoot the quad so the sgt can use his signum?

Yes, this is why I bring that 6th bolter-armed guy in the squad--he can shoot the Quad gun and free up the Sergeant.

How about the feasibility of the Sergeant using his Signum to benefit the Quad Gun? Does that work?

As long as the person firing the Quad Gun is from his Devastator squad, yes. Whether or not you'd better off doing that or using it on a Lascannon, would be entirely dependent on the situation.
