Never had this problem with my friends in high school, because we all had (more or less) the same interests. But we were... unkind to one another at times, just part of being that age. Not saying I agree with it, teenagers are jerks.

Just gotta deal with that stuff.

Sidenote though, your 'friends' should know that one hobby doesn't really define you as a person.

I'm a wargamer. I'm also a US Army Infantryman, fraternity brother, zombie-book fan, Republican, Dog-lover, who loves rock music and action movies.

So am I a nerd? Maybe, maybe not.

Yes. Or at least a geek. We all are. Wear it like a badge of honor!

Then again, I consider anyone who is over-enthusiastic about their hobby to be a nerd, whether that hobby be wargames, card games, video games, music, cars or sports. So... pretty much everyone. The guy who works at the desk next to me is a sports nerd. He can quote stats from 20 years ago. That is more mainstream, but still nerdy.

Just sayin'.

What does this even mean? So you've said something, then decided to clarify that you've said something with this useless addition.

Star Trek taught me so much. Like, how you should accept people, whether they be black, white, Klingon or even female...

On a less valid note, this just sounds like some teasing, my friends and colleagues still make fun of me to this day (I started at roughly 13, I am now 25.).

The way I see it, it's just part of the hobby and it doesn't bother me, besides if its something you really love and enjoy what others think shouldn't matter too much.
