I have the new Plastic Puppet War's Judge (my buddy painted it up at the paint n take last year at GenCon), it's larger than the other models, the sprues are similar to Wargames Factory because I believe that is where most companies that can't do in house plastic "casting" are getting it done because of WGF's slide molds which allow for undercuts and other things you can't get with traditional plastic molds.
The models contained within the old Puppet Wars box are listed in the first spoiler below:
There are 18 models in the main old (metal figs) box. This box also comes with the more "complex" stat cards, the hex board, and impassible tokens, and 2 puppet decks. There is also the issue of the 3 Pawn Boosters that had another 22 miniatures (between the 3 of them including new masters), which I think would bring your total up to the new box, but I don't know as I've never bought the game because it was either too expensive, or sold out.
The new box has the following contents:
The new box comes with 48 miniatures (30 more than the old box), as well as the contents need to play i.e. 2 puppet decks (retail for about 12 USD each), the rules, the 'new' stat cards, tokens and the game board.
The difference I believe with this new box over the old one is that you also don't have to purchase any of the pawn boosters that the old box didn't have.
Edit: Puppet Wars was a board game similar to Dreadball. It is self contained within a box, and you never had to move beyond the models included in the box, and could play with just those. But like Dreadball, there are also pieces that you could buy to make a better list. All models work with all masters in Puppet Wars, so list building is about synergies rather than who is in your faction. With all of the models being included in the box it seems that this is being marketed as just a board game with no hint that Puppet Wars Unstitched will have boosters like the original boxed game did.
