No problem haha
I've taken a different idea for the chapter symbol. I really like the ouroboros, but if a regular one is Thousand Suns, I'm not sure if the infinity one will look good (or can even be done with) the wing(s), so I was thinking a (roughly) backwards s shaped snake, with a wing on it for the symbol. I'm gonna do a test a see how I feel about it. I've been trying different colors with it, but I'm not very happy with how they are turning out. I'm thinking maybe just doing it in black, because it'll go well with the white and green pad, but a green/teal symbol will look nicer on like terminators and large areas.
Any suggestions?
I'm kinda thinking about doing a regular ouroboros but with the wing, but I think it might look a bit off
I'm gonna try one like the second example I posted, of a simple ouroboros with a wing first, then try a winged serpent non ouroboros

Not bad BBL, I think perhaps weathering with a small sponge or steel wool with the same method would work best on a small mini? and my only other suggestion would be to make your symbol out of triangles to give it a more Aztec feel :-) but it's really coming along nicely, the colour choices are good and not a common mix that you see around, so you get points right there lol! can't wait to see this progress and get some more 'meat' into the squads, that's when you really see how darn cool it'll look!

Hmm, I'll need to try that, thanks for the tip. I've heard sponge weathering is great. I kinda tried to make it out of triagle shapes, but they took a life of their own. I think I'm gonna retry next I paint. Next models up are almost certainly going to be more stern guard, as I want to get a ten man squad at least built, then start an honor guard squad with chapter master, and a tac squad

Damn sounds like you are on a roll already! :-) yeah sponge weathering is the way to go, just make sure you get enough small fibres to give it a good and not clumpy look. as for your triangle that have a life of their own lol, try just painting the bottom of the triangle around in the circle of your design leaving enough room above each line for you to do the other sides, this way you can get a really neat circle of triangles for your symbol (I hope that makes some sense?)
Honor guard squad are soooo much fun for making some really nice special mini's, I enjoy things like that myself, you can stretch your wings without being conformist :-)

Hey everyone, in a few days I'm going to be going shopping for modeling supplies (sponges, wire, new primer, basing stuff, etc) and so I've put the painting on the two marines on hold. I've been building more sternguard, and i'll post some pics tonight or tomorrow as I finish more.
Now, if you've noticed I've changed the small info part of the title to paint scheme help again. The longer I look at the marines, I'm not sure im happy with the scheme. Its more that its metallic armor that puts me off, for the most part. I was thinking maybe doing it like the army painter and painting them grey instead of silver, but keeping the green and white. Then again, I'm not sure if I like that either. So, I open it to you guys once more, any suggestions for a color scheme?
The only things I'd have to say for 'rules'
1. No red as primary (crimson and deeper reds are a potential, but no bright reds) I've always had bad luck painting bright red, and tried to do BA once, so none of that
2. As I play Crimson Fists, I'd prefer to not do a blue army, but that being said, as long as its a different shade of blue then the CF scheme, it'll be considered
4. Probably won't do halved/quartered schemes, but if I see one I absolutely love, Ive always wanted a really nice looking split scheme force
I will almost certainly be keeping the snake and aztec-ish parts of the chapter intact, but it'll all come down to how I feel about the final scheme and how well I can work in an Aztec vibe. I'm going to be playing around with fluff soon, I'll keep this blog posted. Thank you to everyone who has commented or offered suggestions, I hope to hear your thoughts on this matter

well you can always do an aqua/teal and white split...i love split schemes.
another thing to consider is just doing certain parts the second color on one of my old space marine projects i just did the shin guards the second color and the insides of the shoulder pads with proper marking for the company you could do something like that.
ill go play with the dow retribution army painter for a bit see if i can find something that might appeal to you

I love a deep grey and aqua/teal myself, but I don't know how well it would translate to models
I think white/teal/blue is Sons of Guilliman, but its an awesome scheme
Maybe a white and luna-wolves color could make an awesome combo

hmmm...well you can always quarter it and gone a little banannas...i think grey and teal would come out nicely. a smoke grey could work or a slate grey with a very light shade of teal almost pastel but not disco death

So, I think I figured out my paint scheme problem. What I have is too flashy, if all my marines are going to be battle-damaged and carrying tons of gear, a flashy paint scheme clutters even more. I'm thinking maybe a minimalist scheme, with dark grey as the main color, maybe fist colors, helmet colors, and shoulder trim, but thats probably it. Probably going to either keep green, or do blue/teal. pics of new scheme/army painter soon.
However, I have pics of the next two stern guard!
First up is the 'scout'
I built his right hand with a bolter holding hand. Chopped off the thumb, filed the lump down, and moved the thumb to the proper side, then gs'd the gap
Next marine is the 'scanner'
Built his right hand the same way, but no gs needed. These two marines will be my standard for how kitted up the rest of the sternguard are, what do you guys think of them
and, one last picture. Got a little surprise in the mail today from nerdfest!
even more pouches to use! (and what looks like a missle launcher reload tube. If its not what it is, well, tough luck for the designers, im using it as a ml reload )
Also, nerd, how'd you find a picture of me to draw off of? The resemblence is uncanny
Thank you very much my friend, im sure you'll see the pouches again soon enough, just depends on how fast I can build more

Dude those marines look bad ass! simply awesome poses you did, I can see what you mean about cluttering them in a tricky scheme and adding weathering! but we'll sort it out with our combined Dakka brains,

Randomly made this in army painter, what do you guys think
(color could be orange, or heavily washed gold)
So, if I do a grey armor base, what should the other color be (shoulder trim, potentially hands, helmet stripe, etc) teal, dark blue, light blue, ice, crimson, etc?
And thanks for the compliments! I hope to finish some more marines today. I'm planning something for the sternguard sergeant, should he have a powerfist, a power axe, or a power sword?

I'm going to do a mock up with army painter of a teal scheme idea, because I think a nice, weathered teal would look really good on marines, and it would fit with lots of brown pouches and nades and things.
And, I happen to have both metal veteran lightning claws from the old veteran box set, so the seargeant may end up with one of them, im going to try out differnet dry fits and see which looks best

Orange (or rather terracotta) and teal green will work! maybe green pads and trim and cheagle? not too overboard and weathering will be suited to the whole model?

Teal pads and trim, or teal pads with a different trim color, or the orange/terracotta pads with teal trim
But I like the idea of the chest eagle being the teal as well Automatically Appended Next Post: Also, I'm going to be scouting out what models I have available and make a list for these guys, so I can figure out all weapons and upgrades the squads will have. Sometime in the very near future I will post it, hopefully alongside model sternguard

sounds great bbl, i think the teal eagle would look great. when i did my marines i did a turquoise chest eagle with a dry brush of silver over it and a black wash came out great looking...as long as the weathering is not too much but moderate damage would be good. but i can not wait for the test model

So, pic for you guys. My dad has always had these clay umm.. men, from back when we lived in California. Saw this one again and had to snap a picture, because its everything we've talked about on here
orange/terracotta, green/teal accents, and aztec/mayan looking. Maybe influencing my paint scheme, maybe not. I kind-of want to have white as a large portion of the scheme, perhaps like the half white, half blue Eagle Warriors. Half White half purple maybe

So, for those who have noticed the title change, its my birthday! Today i've just been relaxing and I finished the paintjob I started last night, finally settling on a color scheme. I finally found a color I liked, that fit with the ideas and fluff I had bouncing around in my head. What do you guys think? I think the dark sage/green fit closer to the snake feel, and fits better with the planets I've created for the chapter. Cant be sneaking in the deep jungle/marsh/swamp in silver armor, can ya? Fluff will be written soon, and linked (and probably posted) here as well. First up, the first finished Son of Ouroboros (name change may potentially happen)
First pic, highlighting the fixed chapter symbol
And two more stern guard
And, the Sgt. I decided on power fist, because hes a sternguard and I'm not giving up his bolter, so he might as well be able to punch a hole in anything that comes at him
You cant see, but theres a nade and pouches along with his knife behind the fist
Well, whats everyone think? C&C is appreciated, have a good day everyone!

Thank you! I plan for the whole army, more or less, to be this kitted up, so the entire force will be striking . One thing ive been tossing around in my head over and over is 'The Wanderers" The marines of this company, Im thinking 3rd, (so all tac marines in the army, and probably the captain and his squad) will be nicknamed the Wanderer's because fluff reasons that will be revealed when I write it ( ) but will be modeled with tattered, bullet hole ridden cloaks and, potentially, hoods. More updates to come!

So, I have made some progress on the army, but I have been extremely busy with my summer job, so until its over I will probably update on weekends, or make time and power through
No new pictures until I get back home tonight, but I have tried my hand at greenstuffing some tattered cloaks. I have the first tac squad's sergeant's built with cloak, and I built and apothecary, scratch built his narthecium, and made him a cloak as well. Other than the backpack highlights and ink wash, the second sternguard is done. I'm going out to celebrate my dad's birthday, and I'll post pics when I get back home! I'm probably going to write some fluff this weekend as well
Thanks for reading everyone, sorry for the slowness of my updates Automatically Appended Next Post: Well, here's those pictures I promised!
