Perpetuate the idea that women can't possibly wish to use sex to make money without being coerced into it by someone else.

Now, it isn't good for much older men to prey on younger girls, and so if the men who had sex with her breached of statutory rape laws then they should be properly punished, but as to the girl and her pimp... is anyone trying to claim she was pressured or manipulated in to this? Per the story, she moved the issue forward, this was something she wanted to do.

The idea that the 'pimp' should receive a jail sentence at all, let alone 15 or more years, is simply outrageous.

Maybe not in Australia, but in America it depends on the state. Each state has different age of consent laws. NY it's 17, Pennsylvania it's 16, other states like Georgia it's 18. I have no idea what Minnesota's guidelines are. Prostitution is illegal in America though, so that's the charge that should be going on, and if Minn. is 17+ for the age of consent, then being that the girls were 16 should also be taken into account. If the age of consent is 16, then only the ruling of prostitution should be in effect. Anyone from Minn. want to chime in on the age of consent? That should make it a little clearer. I could look it up...but then that would create one less post.

No, it doesn't matter. Sex with a 16 year old isn't paedophilia anywhere in the world.

There is a big difference between statutory rape and paedophilia. Both are very bad things, but they are also very different things, much like manslaughter and murder are very different things.

Paedophilia is sex or sexual activities with pre-pubescent children. Statutory rape is sex or sexual activities with people who have gone through, or are going through puberty, but are still under the age of consent and are much younger than the adult party.

To put it simply - a grown adult who has sex with a minor several years younger than him has exploited that minor and likely deserves jail time for it, but they're not a paedophile.

So sounds like statutory rape, and prostitution charges are all valid here. As for the ring leader, that's the type of book that gets thrown at you for being the ring leader, if they can prove coercion (probably won't be hard) then they have her sewn up on all charges without a second thought. I wonder if the prostitots are getting immunity for ratting or if they'll be facing prostitution charges as well.

An attraction to post-pubescent girls is called "normal male sexual behavior" as far as I'm concerned. Female physical beauty peaks in the 16-25 age range, when their bodies are young, firm, but clearly feminine. If banging 16-19 year olds was wrong then every adult male in Japan would be in jail.

Nope I just spelled it wrong, it's "Ephebophilia" which is an adult sexual interest in mid to late adolescents (15-19), and it has a middle ground between it and pedophilia in hebephilia which according to wiki is an adult sexual interest in pubescent individuals younger then the above. All of these are chronophilias which is a preference for a sexual partner who is or appears to be a certain age.
