Not really... the tabletop representation bears little resemblance to anything you could call "real" because of the abstraction required in the game mechanics. However, it reflects the fluff in so far that the relative effects of each weapon are about right. Lascannon are sliw firing anti-tank weapons, assault cannon are effective at clearing out hordes, etc.

Space Marines would have BS5, FnP, Acute Senses, 3 wounds, and a 5+ invuln as part of their base profile. And an army would be no more than 30 guys at 2000 pts.
Dreadnoughts would have 10 hull points and AV13, as well as 6 attacks.
