Rolling dice is the whole point of the game!

I love rolling dice

I roll dice to decide what dice I'm going to roll.

This....

I always carry a few sets of dice and a handful of randoms. Depending on how things are going. I change which dice I'm using constantly.

So I had a player complain that his luck was awful and my luck was so good. I offered to roll EVERYTHING for him. He then said that my rolls were lucky only for me

I really don't believe in luck or anything so I don't care who rolls the dice. But a lot of people do believe in luck so they would probably be against it.

I'd be fine with it but most people I've played are stupid superstitious about their dice. "Storing the 1's or 6's" and even going so far as to change them out if my dice hit their dice on the table. My luck could be contaminating theirs...seriously? Luck cooties?

They probably also play D&D or other RPGs. I've found that RPG players are more superstitious with their dice than war game players.

Sometimes. Maybe.

Seems like a very unsportsmanlike way of doing things. Weather or not something takes a long time is irrelevant, it's a game that lasts for hours, so if you don't have the time, then don't start the match.

I will always roll my own dice. It's not that I think they are lucky, or (most of the time) that I don't trust my opponent, but it helps keep me engaged in the game and I find it irrationally fun and satisfying when I manage to save a wound.

Now this I protest. In some games, such as Kings of War, you roll hits and armour saves. So there are people out there, people who design games even, who think its fine.

In my situation, the wargames club is only open for four hours per week, and the general consensus is to fit the maximum amount of games into that time. If you can shave ten minutes off by rolling all the dice its something to consider because that can be the difference between getting that last turn or not.

Not everyone has the luxury of games on demand, where they can turn a game away just because there may not be time for it.

The way my friends and I do it all from the same 'pool' of dice being rolled, but each person rolling their own. The pool is made up of whatever dice are handy to the person rolling first, whether it's their own or just a bunch on the table.

Roll bucket of dice to hit. Remove fails.
Pick up successful hits, roll again. Remove fails.

Opponent picks out successful wounds that bypass armour, and sets them aside. Picks up successful wounds that saves can be made against, and rolls. Successful saves are removed from the pool, leaving failed saves and bypassed saves in the pool.

Resulting pool of dice is the wound pool. Wounds allocated as per rules and successful LoS! rolls.

So far, this method has been quick and relatively hassle free. Granted, no one in our group runs squads that get multiple LoS! rolls (aside from the odd squad with two characters and sergeant), nor does anyone actually use Barrage weapons, nor multiple armour save or toughness units, so we haven't had any of the big issues people often talk about.

that pretty much defeats the purpose, going down this route you could buy two armies and play by yourself.

and it's your leisure hobby time, what's the rush?

I don't have that luxury either, i spend most of my time just painting and building the hobby. But I have friends who play so when we do play we take our time and enjoy the game. It's not about being stuck up and turning down games, its about taking your time and enjoying the game.

Doesn't bother me as long as the guy actually knows all my army's relevant saves/special rules. Rolling dice is fun, but if the game really does need to get done faster then we might as well speed it up any way we can.

To be completely honest I'd have no issue just using a computerized random number generator. Enter in how many dice and the number you need to succeed and just let it go. Considering the manufacturing tolerances involved in the average block of dice, any lack of true randomness from the computer could probably be excused.

Also, I am convinced that if you leave your dice sitting with the 6s facing up long enough gravity will squash them down like you microwaved them. Just give me a couple thousand years to test my hypothesis
