I love the 40k Universe, I even like the 6th Edition rules. I'm not a fan of Games Workshop, and don't like a lot of their decisions as of late. Such as fething over Sisters of Battle, and having way more Space Marine codexes than are necessary(one, I believe was sufficient), and generally marginalizing anyone who doesn't play Space Marines.

It's like being a Cleveland Browns fan, but you have to deal with the atrocious Cleveland Browns ownership.

Well, what you describe isn't 40k hate.... saying they don't play due to the current ruleset is not hate, its just tabling a game for a while.

40k Hate is people going on tirades against it (definitely happens).

*shrug* it varies area to area. I used to be a die hard privateer guy until i got burned out on the game, and took up fantasy about 3 years ago. Just picked up a tau army. I"ve been having fun with these games now and don't feel the itch to go back to privateer, but then again, I have no need to slam privateer games either. I had an enormous amount of fun with them over several years, the main reason i stopped playing is my playgroup disintegrated, and i got really burned out on the tournament scene after being a hardcore format player for a long time.

I find that groups go through periods, and the period has a domino effect. If one or two players announce that they are not going to play a game anymore, or take a break, that's usually enough in a club atmosphere to start a chain reaction, especially if there's a new game with a low price point buy-in that they are promoting as substitute.

At games stores its a little different, because often there's mini groups within groups, so the ebb and flow of games typically isn't quite as wholesale as it is when just a couple people wander off to a new game.

If that club doesn't like 40k in 6th ed, maybe they'll like 7th ? Who knows !

At the risk of going OT...

... how in god's name does someone go 4 BILLION dollars in debt.

I mean, at 2 billion, don't you wake up and say, "Hey, that's as hit ton of money i'm in debt, i should probably stop the bleeding....".

I'm not much of a sports guy but i caught that headline a few days ago and was simply flabbergasted.

Having linked up with a local club I've found that they seem to be mostly 40k and Fantasy but they try all sorts of things.
Though there are a few who seem kinda resentful of the spread of WarmaHordes...

Nothing wrong with finding a new gaming store if people aren't playing 40k there. The closest FLGS to me went that route - hardly anyone above the age of 18 plays 40k there anymore, which makes it pretty much an exercise in babysitting for adults. Now I have to drive 30 m away to get a game, but at least 40k is popular in this venue and the players are adults.

Same thing happened out of state - the GW store regulars weren't really at a congruent skill level, while the regulars at a FLGS 30 m away provided a much more enjoyable and challenging gaming experience. The 30 minute drive is more than worth a better game.

Yeah, that store really is a shame. I only play with certain folks there anymore.

IMHO, it's great to have a store with a healthy selection of games running at any given time.

Right now in my area there are significant problems with 40k games. There are plenty of game stores, the problem is the players and the venue's setup.

For instance we have a small chain of two stores that only one of them has wargaming. The tables they use are folding tables with felt and then you pepper it with small terrain pieces. This place has become popular with the Warmachine and Malifaux players.

Another store has about fifteen or so large tables, but the player base ranges from the very serious power gamers to thirteen year old children. They had very wonky rules with the way tournaments were played allowing Forge World, but if a Forge World army won they would ban it from tournament play until their "1999 Veteran Matches". Also their game nights are just for general gaming so if I go when Wargaming is supposed to happen most of the time it is Fantasy, Warmachine, or Hordes. So in order to play 40k I have to do tournaments.

The newest store on the block that I found is about fifteen minutes away from my house and they play 40k once a week. I actually started to join the league. But they don't have too many tables. However, the player base seems to be humble. They are doing a 1000pt beginner league and it seems that a bunch of the more "Elite" players are taking this as an opportunity to use different armies and units that they normally would not use. Even though they are veteran players as long as I can leave the table thinking it was a good game with a smile on my face I won't be upset that I lost.
