I agree with the above list, doom in a pod is a big fire magnet but if left alone will easily regain his points, s8 weapon will end his day if he fails it.

Instead of enforcing our own opinions upon this list, let's stay true to the OP's wishes in its construction, as is good manners.

So, general 2000pt list. Plan is to put some attention on the ground, while having a whole mess of monsters coming in fast for sheer attempt to table on turn two or so. So, general opinion and critique?

Well seeing as the OP wanted to put attention on the "GROUND" and have units come in "FAST"(didnt specify if he wanted only units with wings or flyers straight up) Im pretty sure the last list fills the roll as swarm lord is a huge fire magnet because if he gets into melee your dead. The tervigons will spawn troops to hold objectives and move up as needed.

Then the fast part of the list comes in. The flyrant, nuff said. Doom in a pod will get right in your opponents face and will destroy a lot as his LD test just destroys units(also making him a huge fire magnet. Ymgarl genestealers will probably pop up in terrain next to your opponent and assault fragile units allowing you to take out some support units easily and the 2 trygons popping up in your opponents face is pretty scary.

Tank, you raise a point, but it's more or less subjective. The reason why I didn't run a Doom of Malan'tai is the fact that with an increase of Interceptor/Skyfire, it does have some higher chances of getting wiped out. Not to mention, look at this list from a practicality perspective. Most people that face a Tyranid list in a competition tend to deal solely with those dual Flyrants and a Doom. They bunch up to mitigate the Doom, and bring a few big guns to force grounding tests. The Harpies actually capitalize on the fact that most people castle up to avoid the Doom dropping into the middle of their army. So, when they expect a distraction, they instead get hit with a rather nasty hammer while the Tervigons act as the anvil.

"There is a cancer eating at the Imperium. With each decade it advances deeper, leaving drained, dead worlds in its wake. This horror, this abomination, has thought and purpose that functions on an unimaginable, galactic scale and all we can do is try to stop the swarms of bioengineered monsters it unleashes upon us by instinct. We have given the horror a name to salve our fears; we call it the Tyranid race, but if is aware of us at all it must know us only as Prey."

Im not sure about that, castling up against the flyrants is understandable but against doom whats the logic? if you bunker up it allows him to hit more of your squads with his LD test. If you space out you can possibly save a couple squads from being hit.

Also if sky far manages to take doom out then I suppose it wouldnt have made a difference because even if doom does get to go hes still going to be shot to hell by everything and s8 will insta kill him regardless if he got to go or not. Do you see what Im saying? its a little confusing to explain.

Castling to an extent can allow you to keep Doom out of the center of the army where he can cause the most damage. Doom can effective hurt more units when they're farther than 6" away from each other as it allows more units to fit in his radius.

Otherwise the opponent just takes 20+ kroot and bubble wraps the castle...no you can only affect one unit.

Doom is already hit or miss...having interceptor go down before he gets to leech could be frustrating as it decreases he's mediocre chances to cause real damage even more.

No doubt here that Doom is good...unfortunately he goes into every Tournament I play in. He has too much potential not to take from a purely competitive standpoint.
