I think it should be pointed out once again, that the miniature range by Games Workshop that is explicitly anime-inspired, by the very words of John Blanche, are Space Marines

John Blanche wrote:
This recent overhaul of the Terminator design brings it into line with progress made in appearance of the Space Marines in general. The suit is now bigger and takes on the “Anime” proportions bestowed on the rest of the range – longer legs, wider shoulders and a bigger chest. The larger bases and plastic component nature of the hard copies allows for more versatile poses especially in the legs giving the suits more dynamism.

If you don't like anime, ... you probably should be playing 40K. Tau are the least of it.

Space Wolves due to the special snowflake and hypocrisy.
Necrons because they can destroy the galaxy and kill everyone without breaking a sweat, they just dont feel like it at the moment, but soon....
Tau for their greater good aspect, reducing the grimdarkness (a little less now but still). The idea that they can just take over xenophobic worlds from the Imperium just doesnt feel right. Also one of the only factions winning or not suffering large consequences from defeat.

Orks have had exaggerated jaws since the 80's before the anime thing really hit the west, the Tyranid heads are more "dinosaur" than anything else (hell, the 2E carnifex didn't even *have* a head), while Eldar/Space Elves have also been largely what they are now since the 80's. Space Marines have some of it, Tau have it, but I think as a whole, the entire line doesn't represent it. There's elements of it here and there, but not really any more than anything else.

Oh. Also space wolves.

Their fluff is epic.
Their models, look epic.
Their theme, and style, are epic.

Wolf-tooth necklace wolf lord's on thunderwolves with wolf-claws and wolfbannered wolfguard with wolfguns in a wolf-blessed wolf rhino? That's where it starts to get just plain sucky.

That's, strangely, what I like about the Tau. While it's not my style, I do like that they added one army like that, as some players really like to feel that way, even in a grimdark setting. Adding in one option to do so, was a good thing in my mind

Oh the anime thing, well The only reason I think People see Tau like that is because they have a Asian quality to them.

Which is why I said post-2nd-Edition. Old School Nids didn't have it. Old Nid Warriors for example, with their more serpentine/reptilian look, etc..

But a lot of the new ones with the triangular heads and armour-plates, more a stylized version of a reptile as you'd expect to find it ... dunno .. in the logo of a Ice-hockey team, rather than the actual reptile (dinosaur) are clearly making use of a exaggerated perspective lines incorporated into a figures anatomy as you'd find them in (asian) comics and drawings (just like those that also inspired Pacific Rim beasties recently).

I like (!) that GW is using them, but it's an anime-technique through and through.

And no, 80s Orks didn't have those exaggerated proportions

Spoiler:

They, like Space Marine, were very consciously moved to a more anime look to appeal to more modern audiences.

Look at the jaws on some of those guys.

I don't think the newer orks look Anime-y at all, they're just more muscular and are much better sculpts. there was a limit to what they could do with those old Orks in terms of sculpts, the SM's don't look much better.

I hate the Grey Knights with a passion. I don't think they have any place in the game. If anything they should be a special unit that Imperials can take when fighting Daemons.

As for Tau... I don't have a problem with them but I have to disagree with the Anime opinion. They seem way more influenced by the New German Republic from Rifts.

If they were more on the Anime side there'd be a lot more Tau school girls in mini-skirts and impossibly large eyes.

I've also always hated Tau as well. Most of the armies in 40k were based (or seem like they were based) in part on a fantasy analogue. The Tau just seemed like GW thought it was time for some anime/mecha in the 40k universe. Great for anime fans I suppose, but for me they just have never fit in.

Necrons.

While not OP, the shenanigans they pull is ridiculously annoying and often clutch when it happens (firing tesla in overwatch, 3 hits = 9 wounds against half an ork group...dafuq) not to mention Reanimation Protocol is annoying as feth if you cant wipe the whole unit out in one swoop.

Not to mention it seems like their race did a complete 180 in their role in the universe....another dafuq?

Thank you! ... they need to fix guard models...
thats why i play DKOK now.
i liked when guard units could use drills as well, it made each different type of guard army special... now they all just die in droves whether its vallhallan ice warriors whose background makes them known for dying in droves or the catachans who now have the same style of fighting even though they are hardened fighters from a death world.... the models look pretty dumb to, there is a point at which you are strong and buff for war and strong and buff for Mr. Universe competition...

Space Wolves and the blander factions of IG (Cadians, Catachan). Daemons as well, though I'm not horribly opposed to them I don't like them as a separate faction.

Love the Mordians, Vostroyan, even the Catachan, Steel Legion (even though they've been quietly dropped in favor of the DKoK) and I'm a big fan of the Elysian Drop Troops.

Space Wolves are just a ridiculous and to my mind stupid faction. I see absolutely no redeeming virtues to them whatsoever.

Unlike a number of the other posters I really enjoy the Tau. HOWEVER, I understand entirely their consternation. The Robotech feel is similar to the late changes made to the C'thulu Mythos wherein the cold, uncaring universe was tweeked to include a benevolent force.

Tau, I find games against them quite boring. It becomes a game of 'hey, I turbo boost into your face' and he rolls dice to see how many of me he kills. If he kills enough, he wins. If he doesn't he loses in hordes of wyches and incubi and wracks.

So boring when a game barely ever lasts past turn 3.

Ooohhh, so much tau and necron hate, so much to feed upon yes, give me your tears, cry, cry some more your hate is my sustenance.

Ok, back to topic: deamons. I would love to have one army of each faction except for deamons. I don't like most of the models.

But, I really like deamons when allied with CSM. That extra fluffy touch is too cool for my hate of the models to beat.

Yess, this bugs me. I guess it comes down more to how you build your list now, but still...

Personally I dislike Orks. I find their antics kind of tedious, and cockney green space mushroom men just seems...dumb. I also don't really like their aesthetic at all.

Also all of the Chaos stuff bores me to tears, so and so the demon with four Zs in his name invades who-gives-a-gak where demons possession blood god demons aaand I'm asleep. Since their update I find even their aesthetic is kind of gakky. IMO Heldrakes are one of the dumbest looking units in the game.

Oh dont get me started about daemons... as much as I love the look of DKOK paying against Nurgle because I have a personal addiction to Siege of Vraks... I hate when people play the flying circus or they put the different forces of chaos together to make a power house army (blood crushers spam and big chicken, changeling etc. ) ... I feel they should be some how separated in a way ... correct me if im wrong but the different forces of chaos wouldn't be working that closely together, maybe in the same battle ( apoc sized) but not on the scale of a 2000 point game buffing each other and working towards the same goal...

But the same could be said about other armies, GK, IG to a degree, CSM and even SM. The idea is that their is a greater goal making them work together. I find the 4 gods working together more believable than GK fighting Tau or Nids on TT. But people dont just want to play fluffy, some codexes cant even play fluffy or they need to hate winning.

Without a doubt, newcrons, I much prefer the previous codex and its lack of characterization, the day they added named characters to an army of nameless faceless practically soulless living metal robots is a sad sad day, I liked the mystery that they had and that they were either a plodding gun line or put as many monoliths on the field as possible. now with their previously stated instant win buttons for practically every situation and the characters with personalities, names and faces.

In descending order:

1) Demons. 40k is supposed to be a game of armies, not a mob of random monsters that seem to exist for the sole purpose of letting fantasy players use their armies in both games. Demons need to go back to being support for chaos marine/cultist armies, with an occasional summoned demon unit fighting alongside the conventional army.

2) Tyranids. They look stupid, their fluff is incredibly stupid, and they don't feel like a proper army. I wouldn't be sad at all if GW just removed them from the game entirely.

3) BT/DA/BA/SW. Who gives a about the special snowflakes, if Raven Guard/Salamanders/etc can make do with a character and fluff mention in C:SM then so can all the other marine armies. The game does not need so many different armies that have little beyond "we're C:SM +1" to justify their existence.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.
