@Godless. Um what? Scout is still in the rulebook... Its pretty similar to how it worked in 5th, just with a few more restrictions on the distance you can move.
Most of the points posted here about how to deal with a fast horde based Daemons list are valid, but I would reiterate the importance of a Wraithknight or similar unit (not there really are any that are directly comparable) to a Mech Eldar list. Without a Wraithknight type unit you only have one way to deal with horde list, torrent them down before they hit you. If the horde is slow then this usually works just fine, but when it is fast (or at least some of it is fast) then it becomes very difficult to kill it all before it hits you. At the very least you end up boxed in and in serious trouble if its an objective based mission. Having a blocking unit like the Wraithknight makes things much easier, you can throw him into basically any Daemon unit and he will either kill it or they will take quite a while to kill him, which gives the rest of your army time to take out the rest of his damage dealers.
In my experience though Daemons certainly aren't the counter to Eldar by any stretch, well built Daemon lists will do ok, but are still vulnerable to the firepower and mobility that Eldar can field. A badly built Daemon list should just get shot off the board, certainly I wouldn't expect Slaneesh units to be holding up to Eldar firepower (it's the multi wound smaller stuff like Hounds and Screamers, or the bigger tougher stuff like Princes that cause problems). Most Daemon lists work by buffing up certain units, which usually means you have 1-2 tough units to deal with and then a bunch of follow up units. This means you have obvious support elements which you can focus on first (whichever character has the Grimore, Fateweaver, support psykers etc), and a bunch of weaker units if you can divert/bypass the most aggressive elements of the list. Taking out even one of the support elements can be enough for Daemon lists to fall apart.

But they can't run and assault, obviously. I don't think that's what the poster meant, though.
So in a 24" deployment, they can scout forward to just outside of 12" from the nearest enemy unit (if anyone deploys that close) then move and be on top of em for the assault phase. They could conceivably get up to 35.999999 inches of total displacement from their deployment position on a turn 1 charge, going second, if the opponent is clueless enough to leave anything in reach.
Well that's what I was getting at with my initial post; why would anyone ever leave their stuff within reach if going second?
As for the 12", turns out you're right, never noticed that certain unit types go more than 6".

For the most part I agree with this. You're dead on about target priority being the solution to defeating Daemons. But I would advice against underestimating a Slaneesh list. While it is true that Seekers are less durable than Hounds or Screamers, they are also cheaper, nearly as fast (6 + D6 run), and will kill anything they touch. Seekers will murder a Wraith Knight (14 Seekers will kill a WK on the charge in one round of combat with no Prescience). A good Slaneesh rush list can be just as overwhelming as the other builds.
Here is the Slaneesh rush list that won the Anime Expo playing against a very solid Eldar player:
