Whats the model for a mycectic spore?

There is no official model for the Mycetic Spore. I have one home-made one using the directions found here except I used a cheap styrofoam ball. I got enough things to make 4 of them for around $20-25. I...just haven't gotten around to making more or finishing the one I started. If I use more the one I use a couple of SM Drop Pods.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

While you may want to win you also want your own army not just what everyone else takes remember . You may want more than 10 gargoyles by the way if you want them to survive for more than a turn.

If I buy painted models could I just paint over it and still have it look good because im not good with super glue. Or painting for that matter.

this is the glue i swear by. Easy enough to use. Just don't inhale too much But why not ask your boyfriend for help?

EDIT: well painted models usualy cost alot, and the ones that don't are painted poorly and caked in glue.

Also have you considered the price tag for the average 1500 point WH40K army?

I just remembered, this is a great tutorial for generic tyranids. you can skip most of the lengthy steps and get quick results. and you can do it with all kinds of tyranid beasts, not just hormagaunts.

to save you some frustration I suggest dark grey and pink. black is an annoying dimensionless color that requires many highlights to make it work.
Good luck !

The trick to an effective army list is thinking about what each unit is for and how they function collectively. For instance, Tervigons go well with gaunts since they keep units in Synapse range, provide some beef to assaulting units and can sit on an objective like nobody's business. Tyrant Guard go well with Swarmlords/Non-flying Hive Tyrants since they're a somewhat ough layer of ablative Wounds that can also do their part in Close Combat. Think about that kind of synergy between units. For instance, the Doom can easily draw fire from your Hive Guard so they can spend a turn safely popping light vehicles. On the flip side, a Mawloc is a great unit for creating a sudden and immediate threat on the enemy's side of the board should the Deep Strike go well, but what else is it doing? Mawlocs are expensive, especially for something that's just a diversion. Not all units have to provide a support role for another unit, but each unit should be an efficient and functional part of each battle.

Courtney,
I couldn't resist commenting. First, welcome to the game. Heads turn when girls walk into a game shop sure, but then it's down to brass tacks and rolling dice. They (we) are there for fun and sport. And you shouldn't believe that girls can't be good (ridiculous). In fact, the winner of the Bay Area Open (pretty giant tournement) this year was a girl.

If you're new to the game and not into the painting aspect, something I do to get my models to tabletop standards is "dipping" them. You might give that a try. You assemble your models, spray them in the color you want, pick out a few details (teeth, talons, guns, etc) with brush painting. Then brush on the dip. I like it. Some don't but I field 100% painted armies! So just a thought.

Second, if you're new, high point cost models that are versitile are a good way to start if on a budget. In that spirit to avoid significant initial cash / modeling time outlay at the onset of your modeling, you can start with a 'nidzilla list (one of HappyJew's original suggestions). Expect to get beat at first. You'll get better. I haven't but you probablly will! Hah!

This is similar to our build, but I think you have to run a Flyrant (winged tyrant), if you have gargoyles. At 1500 we had a Flyrant with twin devourers (just use whatever you like the look of for devourers, as this might change soon), 2 tervigons, doom, 3 hive guard 19 gargoyles, and two lots of termagants. O course, you should play a bit first and decide what you like the feel of. Anyway, here's a tutorial on how to make spores.. We hav now changed and have a 3 mycetic spore list, with two dakkafexes (carnifex with twin linked devourers) that pop out of them. THe other week we had a game, demolished a space wolves/marine alliance and the other two players were saying: "God I hate spores." HIs ally replied, "I don't hate spores - I just hate what comes out of them."

Rumours are there's a new tyranid codex in NOvember. SO I would buy the hive tyrant, gargoyles and termagants and get them all painted, maybe a zoanthrope to go on with, and a tervigon if you like the look of them for the time being and wiat and see if anything changes before buying other stuff, especially the more expensive finecast items, for instance it's rumoured there's a new hive guard kit. Strenghts and weaknesses will change but tyrants, termagant and gargoyles these will still all still be important units.

I don't play in Tournaments. I don't know how to build an uber-competitive list. I know what works for me (and others based based on bat-reps). Helping someone get started (male or female) is much easier for me then looking at a list for a tourney and going "This, this and this won't work. Take these instead."

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. I don't think he was being mean imo he is just stating what looks obvious here. And look at you protecting the lady, quite the gentleman.

While I'm posting I suppose I could suggest the OP google "why play tyranid 40k" and not feel like a toolbag. Click on 1d4 chan's thread it should be all the reading you need to at least understand what the general wiki editing community thinks you should be doing with nids (and should be more refined then the info here).

Once you've done that you might Google the other playable armies much the same as nids and read up on them so you know what the first 'mean' neckbeard who has intent on beating your -army- is kinda sorta doing. Oh, and all the FAQ's to.

Also, you should base your army in silver and paint it pink.

I am the kinda ork that takes his own washing machine apart, puts new bearings in it, then puts it back together, and it still works.

Hi courtney. I play Tyranids and I might be able to give you some helpful advice, though I'm not an expert and don't normally think I'm qualified to advise. I think you and I are interested in the same type of things, so here's my suggestions.

My group (we play in someone's home, not a game store), just started an escalation league. We have sort of a jumble of old models and I've played in the past occasionally with a mixture of unpainted models and counts as, but I'm just not committing to learning the rules and having proper painted models. We're doing an escalation league where every couple of weeks we play with a list with a few more points. No counts-as or unpainted models allowed. I'll dig up the exact rules for that if you want, but from where you're at, you might want to think about escalating your list from 200 points, 500, 1000, 1250, 1500, etc.

Most Tyranid lists look pretty similar under the current codex, but we're about to have a new one which will change things. That doesn't mean you should hold off and wait to see what's most powerful in the new rules, it means you should pick the models and stuff you like and build your list around that regardless of codex.

Right now, most people are running lists with 1-2 flying Hive Tyrants, lots of Termagants, Tervigons, Hive Guard, and Zoanthropes (or the Doom, who doesn't have his own model and is just a Zoanthrope). I like genestealers even though they're extremely weak in the current rules and I'm using them for my escalation army (Broodlord, 6 stealers, 10 Termagants with devourer at 200 points).

The list you suggested sounds great, and I like Hivefleet Oblivion's suggestions, but I suggest you just getting 200 points worth of models (1 HQ and 2 troops, I highly recommend a Tervigon and 20 Termagants), paint them, play them, see how you like it, and build from there.

My friend plays eldar and I've played against him a bit. One thing can can be really annoying is AP2 on basic troops. Against nid monstrous creatures, it can do a lot of damage. I tend to get around that by rolling for objecticum mechanicum for tervigons or zoanthropes. It forces him to reroll 6's and while it can be situational, it can save you a few wounds. Gargoyles are great when taken enmass, not only screening but with TS they can hold their own in cc as well as shooting. Hormoguants can be great in cc but they will die a lot depending on how they get up the field. I would drop the TS from them but thats a personal choice. I think most of everything else has been mentioned at some point.
