Ultramarines: With enough practice and the right list their ct is ok but it seems that timing will be really important. Relentless dev's sound great... except when you think about it only being for one turn it's pretty much pointless.

Whitescars: Very decent but obviously more useful for bike armies, gotta love everything having hit and run, that's pretty sick.

Imperial Fists: It's decent because it buffs all bolter weaponry's ability to hit. Free tank hunters for dev and dev centurions is cool, the plus 1 on building damage table isn't terribly useful, at least in my context.

Iron Hands: The 6+ fnp is pretty meh but characters and vehicles having it will not die is cool to have though. The bonus for repairing vehicles isn't really worth caring about too much IMO. I think you could make a really fluffy army with this trait.

Salamanders: Re-rolling armour saves against flame weapons is decent but very situational. Twin linkin flamers all around is cool but you'll have to ensure your list has a lot of flamers. The free master crafting for characters is cool but only as useful as what you invest points in. Really it's still all about taking vulkan.

Raven Guard: Stealth on turn one is ok, no point lookin a gift horse in the mouth on that one. A lot of models being able to outflank and or re-posiiton is decent. Like with white scars and bikes, a big part will obviously involve running a lot of units with jump packs.

Overall my fav is probably imperial fists. It's simple, easy to remember and buff's all bolters.

Do you play 30k? It'd be a lot cooler if you did.

White Scars and Imperial Fists the most, my current planned 1500 list is Khan as Primary Detachment HQ with Pedro Kantor as Allied Detachment HQ, with 2 squads of bikes getting the WS an Khan bonuses, and scoring Sternguard in the allied detachment getting the Kantor bonuses, with a unit of allied Devastators using Tank Hunters on the back line.

I also like the Iron Hands one, and plan on using that as well once I hit 2K points and get the 2nd primary detachment, allowing the fielding of a White Scars Primary detachment, an Iron Hands Primary Detachment (unkillable bike Chapter Master who joins a white scars squad + vehicles), and a secondary detachment of IF.

I don't have any plans to use them yet, but the Salamanders CT also intrigues me. The movement away from hordes and vehicles towards MCs like the Riptide makes flamers and meltaguns a little less useful, but if the pendulum swings back (and it may, with the orks and IG codices coming, and even with Tyranids if horde lists are common), then having those rerollable flamers and melta would be awesome.

I would always play with the thematic doctrine to my army choice. Ie. Iron hands=iron hands. Crimson fists = imperial fists.Etc.

But i play with blood ravens... so that sorta screws me up... so i chose Imperial Fists for the bolterness as thats how my army works.

If you want a good assault army the Templar CT arn't bad at all, especially since challenges are so prevalent in 6th.

The best thing is that you arn't required to take crusade squads with BT CTs so you arn't locked in to a specific playstyle.

I'm really like the general utility of the Iron Hands CTs for army wide 6+ FNP and makes HQ characters just unstoppable.

The Imperial Fists seems quite useful for general lists as well.

for my fledgling minotaurs army im going with either fists or IH, mostly because I'm doing a siege vanguard army... speaking of which I should go e-mail FW to see if they have any semi official stuff on them.

Have hope! Maybe guardsman shall get doctrines! (probably not) I've always felt it is becase GW likes having a box of SM work for all of the chapters as well as posterboy status. That and maybe they wish to milk guardsman with dlc books?

Ultramarines for two reasons.

First of all, my custom Chapter are UM successors. Though I might look with interest at other doctrines I'm staying true to my fluff.

Second, just add in Tigurius with both Prescience and his Warlord Trait and you can put out some serious dakka.

Driven away from WH40K by rules bloat and the expense of keeping up, now interested in smaller model count games and anything with nifty mechanics.

The fluffbunny in me screams IF, so that's what I voted.

For a competitive game I'll consider ultras or IH before Dorn's finest. I'd like to bring along Vulkan, he is just pretty expensive to the point that I could just buy another squad loaded with melta weapons.

With love from Denmark

Ultramarines are going to be my chosen CT for my army. Sure, it's not super-amazing, but it's probably better than what we had last edition.

I might ally in 9th company devastators and make them IF, because IF tank hunters for 4 lascannons is pretty swell.

It's okay, Tigurius makes up for the meh Ultramarines doctrines.

Ultramarines. Even one turn of twinlinking is super good, and Tigurius does work. If this codex is strong enough for people to start griping about it, I expect most of that whinging to be directed at Tiggy.

Yeah. Storm of Fire essentially means for one turn, Tigurius can cast Prescience twice... and then there's the tactical doctrine...

I've been planning on starting a Crimson Fists/Minotaurs chapter myself, so I've been wondering the same thing.

They're supposed to be masters of siegecraft, so Imperial Fists would fit on that account. They also have a lot of the very best toys, are unrelenting and their leaders absorb damage like Captain Cortez on a bad day, so Iron Hands could work as well.

They are still based in 5th edition, but their chapter tactics is based around their Chapter Master, which gives them Preferred enemy (Space marines)

Kinda like how Crimson Fists need Kantor for theirs.

I dont really understand the question, which chapter doctrine are you taking?
Doesnt it depend on what chapter you have chosen from the beginning and how you have painted it?
There is no chosing, you are given a trait depending on what chapter you have. I didnt know there was a choice.
For example:
If you build an iron hands army, painted as iron hands, with iron hands markings, bionic left hands, you cant then select imperial fist doctrine. You have Iron hands.
Period.

Thats my two cents....

I play CSM but if I were to go loyalist (the very thought sickens me) it would either be IF or IH.
I love standard marines and bolters but also the resilience of biotics. Such a hard choice :/

To all the Blood Ravens players, the RG CT fits the the fluff the closest.

There have been a couple of threads about it and it was the outcome of the discussion, but as always, use what you want.
