Good catch.

@GreenLaborMike its great that your passionate about this game it certainly needs more backers like yourself, but to be honest your flagging a dead horse.

I think the kickstarter has been to focused on the minis TO MUCH! yes they are nice and have been designed by the best with the best quality of material.
but its about the game the rules getting that system into the hands of gamers so they can play it at its FULL potential. Not some half cocked rules set that looks more like a turn sequence then actual rules.

he should have made the box set with cardboard tokens or standees of the various vehicles and then used the stretch goals to add in the 3D versions of them.
Done that way the game would have been funded by now and he could have been working on getting the minis made.
also the choice of scale has not been thought out at all. 10mm why? just because Hawkwargames did it with Dropzone [which has a massive range and following] doesn't mean he should or could do it with such a niche market game like Raod/Kill.

why or how he made his decisions only time will tell if this game makes it to market. With the absurd amount of ridiculous comments that have been thrown around, and heated arguments it has gotten out of hand. Its why I walked away in the end, and moved on to Outrider.

I wish Miles and Jennifer all the best but Road/kill is not a game for me hence why I cancelled my pledge. I do hope for the fanboys sake it does get funded but with each day ticking over its looking unlikely. Then again, there is still the final week and final 48 hours where more pledger's usually join a kickstarter. even then if that happens [and its a BIG if] they still need a huge influx at least $1,571CAD per day for the next 13 days, just to get to the funding goal of $39k CAD and for the main goal when the actual box set is unlocked of $79k CAD your needing $4,648CAD per day...

I've said my piece you know where I stand... the game does look cool and it would fill a void that is lacking in the gaming world... I am just not happy as to how its was handled, set up and executed... the actual game, minis, and game play really does look like it would have be an exciting game.

There was some frank discussion over at BGG about the project, and Miles gave some more explanation about his thought process on why he structured the campaign the way he did. I don't think it was unreasonable for him to do it this way, and I don't think it's unreasonable for people to be upset about it. Sometimes it just works out that way. At this point, I'd call it a very sick horse. Not quite dead...yet.

The only disagreement I think you and I may have is about the quality of the rules. Everyone who has actually played the game and writes about it says it plays very well indeed.. And I'm keeping my eye out for the review from Board to Death. That will be very helpful to learn more about the game itself.

But as to how this project has been run so far - there have been a lot of mis-steps, definitely.

GreenLaborMike I really do like your way of handling your comments and your views. You are a passionate fanboy Road Warrior of the game but you are also very realistic on the nature of it and open to others views. I really wish For you the game becomes a reality one day.

Thanks, LGW. I'm just doing my thing, and pimping for more car combat games (I can't wait for the Car Wars Kickstarter project either, or the Outrider Kickstarter Project, if what you say is true). FWIW, I really meant it several days ago when I said I was jealous that you got to play with your kids to customize Hot Wheels cars with guns, etc. My son loves to play games, but cars are definitely not his thing.

On a separate note, I have a serious question. Miles mentioned over on BGG that there is some member of the Games Workshop design staff that just backed Road/Kill. Gav Thorpe? Is this noteworthy? I know so little about the world of Games Workshop.

not really sure if dropping a GW name into a Project is a positive or Negative thing....

As each persons view on GW is very different from the Hardcore Fanboys to the Old school gamer who continually feels like they are getting screwed over by them.

I think the Question that might want to be answered is that GW personality pledging for his OWN personal Reasons??? or is he doing it for GW's OWN reasons????

if his then that is great as he sees the game as having potential if its the latter then maybe not as it could imply that GW want it.

time will tell if its a benefit or a hindrance.

Unless he pledged 60k+ it really don't mean a thang.

Interesting. Thanks.

One last question that is non-RK related - I saw this KS project just launched:

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1828606900/get-it-painted?ref=users

As a complete Noob to painting miniatures, this project interests me - I don't want to sift through hundreds of online tutorials and I don't have time to hang out at my FLGS trying to bug more experienced painters to teach me from square one.

If there an *easy* way to learn the absolute basics of painting? If not, does this project seem like a decent one? I know it's geared towards Warhammer, but some of the techniques covered, like weathering for vehicles, seem to apply pretty universally.

If you are going to be painting the Road Kill minis primarily, techniques for larger scale minis will have some relevance, but I would instead look for tutorials on painting micorarmor like this one:

http://www.ghqmodels.com/pages/military/modelguide.asp

The techniques these guys use will be a lot better for you since they are geared towards small scale vehicles.

Here are a few more: http://mojobob.com/roleplay/wargaming/micros_painting.html

This guy has videos showing how he does Dropzone Commander stuff: http://www.jayadan.com/content/painting-dropzone-commander-army-updated

YouTube is filled with stuff. I wouldn't waste money on DVDs. Spend the money on some paint and brushes and just do it. Screw up really good and soak the figs in PinSol overnight then scrub them off with an old toothbrush. Rinse 'em off and start again.

Jake

EDIT: Hell, I just got my Sedition Wars crap delivered and it includes a painting DVD, obviously geared towards the Sedition Wars minis but the techniques allegedly should be good for anything (I have not watched it). I can send it your way if it will help you, though I think my daughter wants a chance to watch it first.

Jake - Thanks for the offer! Once you are done with the DVD, I'd definitely be willing to check it out.

As I said, I'm not inclined to spend my time surfing the net to find useful tutorials. I just want something that will hold my hand and lead me step by step from the very beginning on how to paint miniatures. I don't need anything fancy, just good enough to not be embarrassed if I bring them to my FLGS.

Also keep in mind that I will be receiving a number of miniatures games from Kickstarter (All Quiet on the Martian Front, Cthulhu Wars, Wrath of Kings, Kaosball, etc.) so it won't be just "N' scale miniature cars (assuming RK even funds?). Having said that, I will definitely check out the links you provided!

I wasn't sure what else you were hoping to paint...

PM me your address and I'll mail out the DVD in the near future.

you will do well with that DVD CatJake has it should take you through most scales or at least give you skills that could be used with most scales.

I saw your comment on the RK comment page as to how can we decrease dollar amount and yet increase backers.
its those over funder's rearranging their pledges down to the $100CAD pledge level as they now realise it ain't going to reach the $79k CAD goal.

You mean the Real Road Warriors won't really give up $3-450 each just to help out, even if they can't get the expensive reward levels because they don't unlock?

Say it isn't so. Who ever could have predicted that may happen?
