Hey drock.
The bases are actually pretty simple.
I'll break them down really quick.
I take some fine sand basing and glue it to the entire base. I then use liquid green stuff to cover the sand. This once primed and painted helps it to look like asphalt.
Around the base you can add some decorations. I was given some pieces from a
GW basing kit. Has some rocks and bullet casings and such.
The larger debris areas are using a slate mix. I think this is also from a
GW basing kit. I was also given this.
The little chunks of curb are sprue that I have cut into random lengths and cut/gashed/drilled and glued onto the bases.
The little wall from the Q-ball was cut from a yogurt container and then cut and gashed up to make it look like damaged concrete.
here is a link to a forums post I did asking opinions about the bases for feedback.

For painting
base coat black.
(not sure on paint names but you can follow this basic color formula)
For concrete/rubble
Dark gray dry brush on all the concrete rubble and curbs etc,
Codex gray dry brush
Fortress gray dry brush
White dry brush
For stripes
i've been freehanding yellow and white road markings. Im trying not to use to many "modern" markings. On a larger base I plan to do some imp eagles and such.
Once you have a good stripe or marking down, stipple some chaos black and brown onto it to represent the pain being chipped away from wear and tear and slather some wash over it.
For asphalt
Dark gray dry brush
Dark Brown dry brush (spotty, meaning don't hit entire area)
Lighter brown dry brush (just stipple a bit over a few spots of the darker brown patches)
Nul Oil Wash
Devlan Mud wash
Hope this helps

I do too! Some of the ones I'm painting now have them on. The minis were traded for some Blackreach Orks.
Some were pretty badly glued and none had the mold lines removed. Most of the were already base coated too.
I did what I could to preserve as many as I could. I can see through some of my pictures that I missed a few mold lines on some too. *DOH*
Coming up I will have 1 full squad of 12 to go with the fireblade. I have 12 more broken down into pieces soaking in simple green. I will need to putty the crap out of them though. The glue damage is really bad.
I also have 2 broadsides, a riptide, a in need of repairs devilfish, and a squad of pathfinders.
Thanks for looking everyone. This really helps motivate me to keep going.
I am always down for advice or creative input as well.
Cheers!
