I think the ability to use multibases and the more generic concept of a unit in general that KoW uses opens up a lot a lot of freedom. I think it will really let me use a lot of that Bones stuff I just ordered

sounds excellent! I'm way excited to see your finished ysian horde!

I've looked through the miniatures, and although I would love to use the Axe-Drune's as Orc Ax's, there is a problem with this. The unit itself has 5 unique sculpts. 3 of those are command miniatures (champ, musician and standard bearer). The other two also have very identifiable poses to them, so buying more of those to make up a unit is going to make them look rather similar to each other, as well as being rather expensive.

Since their hands aren't attached to the figure, you could do some modifications and give them axes and shields, but again, the lack of sculpt variety means you'll essentially have the same problems as above. So what I need to do is find some axe and shield guys who look like the Mierce Ysian sculpts. This is not going to be easy, especially with the helms they use.

Rackham has some fantastic Drune miniatures, but all the big beefy type guys carry a two handed axe, which means if I do use them, they'll all be Greataxe style units. Would rather them be easily identifiable amongst each other. Oh and I am not having much luck finding the RBG Helsvakt Hordesmen either.

So, I might hold off on this for now, and instead make an Orc army out of, wait for it, Orcs! I have an absolute ton of Confrontation miniatures (bought a ton of them when Rackham was going under, and then a lot more from online stores), and an army of the Behemoth will do nicely. Not sure who to ally them with (perhaps Goblins) to find miniatures which will mix with them nicely, but I'll look into it some more. Need some more wintery looking Goblins than the regular kind.

Does anyone have any of these guys?

They would make awesome KOW ogres.

I like Mantic ogres because they're muscular and look good in a fight. These are bulky like GW ones. Although I could see them as shamans, if Mantic didn't already have amazing WIP shamans coming.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

The Hordes Legion of Everblight Ogrun Warspears (and the Chieftan Unit Attachment) look like they're cut from the same cloth, though the Hordes figures are going to be somewhat bigger. Looks like they'll work together nicely though.

Those ogres would go perfectly in with an asian-themed KoW force. So would many of the Noh models from Relic Knights, if they turn out to be the correct scale.

I like Mantics ogres as well but I have a Samurai themed army I am building so the mantic guys don't really go very well.

@Azazel the Relic nights guys look great, shame what little armour they have looks very futuristic.

I think the "futuristic" on these is really just in the way they've painted the NMM/Silver. Small things like the "panel lines" could easily be puttied over and would remove 90% of the "sculpted sci-fi"-type details. Cover those and paint the armour in more traditional metallics/japanese-style colours and you're golden.

I think you may be right actually. With a bit of work they could easily look appropriate.

I have a box of them. They are Confrontation Dai Bakemonos from the Goblin faction, and exceedingly hard to find for a cheap price. If you're looking to use them (they're awesome btw), you'll need to find a recaster unfortunately as Rackham has gone out of business. It's unfortunate, but how it is.

That sucks. Will have to find a recaster then.

I was wondering what I could use as a Chaos type army, represented by Mierce and Rackham miniatures, and the answer was staring me right in the face! The Ysian/Rackham line can be easily used as an evil version of the Basilean Army! The Mierce Ysians together with the Karnagh's and Persecutors from Rackham can all be used to represent the Paladins. They'll be on a smaller sized base than if I had used them to represent Orcs, but this is cool as they are quite beefy, and will fill out a regimental base nicely. Also gives me 3 different types to use to represent the same unit, which is cool. Works out really well, as seen below;

Men at Arms Spear/Shield - Rackham Drune Warriors of Caer-Maed with spears modded onto them
Men at Arms Sword/Shielf - Rackham Drune Warriors of Caer Maed
Crossbowmen - Mierce Ysian Bow-Drunes
Heavy Arbalest - Scratch build or ignore
Paladins - Mierce Ax-Drunes, Rackham Drune Karnagh and Red Karnagh, Drune Persecutors
Paladin Knights - Rackham Drune Horned Riders
Sisterhood infantry - Rackham Sessairs Warriors of Avaggdu
Panther Lancers - Rackham Sessairs Centaurs and Kelt Centaurs
Panther Chariot - Scratchbuilt with Rackham Drune/Sessairs/Ophidian riders
Elohi - Rackham Drune Formor Fiends with wings
Phoenixes - Mierce Terror of Fortriu Chimera
Dictator - Mierce or Rackham Hero miniature
Dictator on horse - Unsure, will check Mierce and Rackham line for a suitable miniature
High Paladin - Mierce or Rackham Hero Miniature
High Paladin on horse - Unsure, perhaps new Mierce Crom mounted General (depending on size)
High Paladin on Griffin - Mierce Ungefelic Manticore
Bearer of the Holy Icon - Mierce Mawdred of Carn Dhu
War Wizard - Mierce or Rackham Hero miniature (Zethag comes to mind)
Ur-Elohi - Rackham Drune Balkron with wings or Koren, the Chosen one with wings
Berosos - Damrahl, Drune Wyrd
Penitents Mob (if Beresos taken) - Rackham Drune Lanyfhs of the Black Woods
Gnaeus Sallustis - Carrowek of Carn Dhu
Jullius - Enigma Miniatures Kaernus the Vicious One with wings
Samacris - Thinking either Wyrd miniatures Nekima, or some kind of other awesome demonette. Perhaps a Reaper Sophie.

Cool, imagination sparked! Now just to find all my confrontation boxes and put it together...

Also there is an abyssal army that could be helpful too. That said Evil basilians sounds great.

I think all it really needs is a few changes and it will be fine. Instead of being Good aligned, they'll be evil. Instead of the "Blessed be the Pious" rule, I'll name it "Blessing of Kernunnos". Angelic becomes Demonic. Done.

As for the Abyssal army, yeah, would allow me to bring in more Demon-centric units, though I am not sure which I would use them for. I did buy Ba'su'su, and would love to use him, so that's definitely something which can be done. Edit: It would allow me to use the Rackham Moloch's as Abyssal Fiends, which would rule.

I'd rather use the Basilean list to play than a fan's Chaos list. Fan lists are good, but people can get kind of annoyed about playing against something not officially sanctioned. This way I can skip that and just use these instead. I doubt people will be annoyed if I am evil aligned instead of good.

Im sure it will be fine. The only problem you would come across would be with allies I think. Love the concept of evil Basileans though.

Why not just go with allies and ally a kingdoms of man (neutral) army with either the Abbysal Dwarves or Twilight Kin. That's completely legal in the rules and either one of those lists will give you access to statlines that can represent the more flavorful chaos units.

Of course the upcoming Abbysals list might make all this a moot point.

I've got the Abyssal list and it's more reflective of Demons than Warriors of Chaos. The Abyssal Dwarf list is really a Chaos Dwarf list, and feels that way as well. You could pick and choose, but you'd lose a large portion of the list of things available to you because they don't fit in well (Decimators with blunderbusses, Gargoyles, the rest of their war machines outside of something which could be a Hell cannon).

Basilean list is something which can easily change over, as it's very similar to a Chaos Warrior army, with the exception of the Crossbowmen and Elohi, but the latter could be easily represented as demon princes.

Plus I like this idea more. I like to swap things around. Should be fun.

I think the Baselian list is either on their website or the forums. If you can't find it, PM me and I'll send it to you, though I won't be back to the computer for a few days.
