Zing Yau Breaks through the Seal

Great news! The Pledge Total had reached 6 figures. Now things are getting serious for Tripitaka and his Band.
When the underworld seal was broken, it was not just the Bull Demon Clan that broke through to the mortal plane. Zing Yau is the first of the independent Demons we want to add to Journey: Wrath of Demons. This addition not only includes the plastic miniature based on the fine art work of A.J. Manzanedo, but everything you need to use Zing Yau in the game, Profile Sheets, Demon Cards, etc.
Most backers will be getting Zing Yau as a free Boxed Game Upgrade, but we are also adding him to the Add-On list as well. Any of you can get more plastic Zing Yau miniatures for $5 each or add resin miniatures to your rewards by increasing your pledge by $20. The Add-Ons come with all game cards too. The Zing Yau Demon is not a unique character and you could pledge for multiple copies and have many roaming the game world at once. But the game plays fine with just the one free Yau!
Want more freebies? Okay, more Collectors Upgrades at $110,000. Two decorative scripture tubes to use as the Sutras objectives in the game. These replace color card tokens.
the way this one is moving, that resin option might not be a bad thing by the end...

Backers, here is some more information about the game. This is a hard update to write, because the rewards change with every stretch goal. We’ll start with the core game that we planned for the $55,000 funding pledge and try to make it clear what bonus items have been added already. As well as listing the contents, we’ll describe the miniatures some more. Let’s start with the box! It will be 30cm by 30cm by 30cm in size and will weigh about 5-6lbs. This is a sizeable game. First the plastic miniatures list. The core box started at 33 miniatures:
• 4 Pilgrims: The Monkey King, Tripitaka, Cho Hakkai, Monk Sha
• 3 Demon Lords: Koorogg the Bull Demon King, Yazuiji the Empress Iron Fan, Kogaiji (Koorogg’s son)
• 2 Borrack Bull Generals
• 3 Boof Bullserkers
• 5 Bharhaz Bull Archers
• 15 Berrok Bull Warriors (1 pose but two weapons)
• 1 Kei Lun Heavenly Creature
These miniatures are made from ABS and PVC. These two plastics have different properties and allow us to create the best results with thin and thick parts of the miniature. We can show pictures of the resin minis so you can see what the sculpts look like. We will show pre-production plastic minis as soon as we have them, but we know what the factory is capable of and we’re demanding high quality plastic minis for this game. As a reference, look at the 1/35 military line from Dragon, there are many reviews by real customers on the web.
The smallest base is one square on the map tiles, so 30mm by 30mm for Tripitaka. The largest base is 4 squares, 60mm by 60mm for Kei Lun. Measuring from base to eye level, the Tripitaka miniature is small at 45mm, The Bull Demon King is larger, 90mm, and the Heavenly Creatures are just huge, 130mm for Kei Lun. Did I just say “Heavenly Creatures”? That was supposed to be secret! We have already unlocked more miniatures. At the pledge total of $100K, backers getting the Boxed Game Upgrades will also get:
• +1 Borrack Bull General
• +2 Bharhaz Bull Archers
• +4 Berrok Bull Warriors
• +1 Zing Yau
But the game is far more than just the miniatures:
• 6 Custom Dice
• 9 Single-Sided Map Tiles
• 4 Double-Sided Bridges Tiles
• 10 Double-Sided Door Tokens
• 12 Profile Sheets, one for each type of miniature
All miniatures released in the stretch goals are supplied with all the cards you need to play them. For example, the new independent Demon Zing Yau comes with his Profile Sheet and extra Demon Cards. This means that the above list will also change as we unlock stretch goals. Of course, future Boxed Game Upgrades will change this list too. We are making miniature versions of some tokens. Different quests use different numbers of objectives. It is impossible to given firm numbers right now, as balancing the Quests will be the final task, but typical games use 4 Sutras Tokens and 6 Mystical Boxes. You can always mix card tokens and minis, perhaps using minis near the Pilgrims current location. There will be more detailed information on these other game components as the campaign continues. The game is in the final stages of development, so the contents are still subject to change. All miniatures in the core game are supplied unpainted.

Our Game Plan
Comment Like
First of all, thanks to everyone who has supported our project! The opening days have unlocked 6 stretch goals, that’s great!
There have been questions about us releasing both plastic and resin versions of many of our sculpts. We want to share a little information about the industry and our plans with you now, to help you understand where we are going and what we are thinking.
There are two expensive steps in creating plastic miniatures, making the sculpt and tooling the steel mold. Making resin miniatures is time consuming, but the original sculpt is the only expensive part. If we first have one stretch goals to raise money for the sculpt, we can start by releasing the resin figures and then if we have a second stretch goal for the mold, we can pay for the tooling and create the plastics. An alternative would be one larger stretch goal to fund them both, but it’s fun to see smaller stretch goals getting unlocked quickly.
We have to take these costs into account and plan each stretch goal carefully. It has always been our intention to make as many of these miniatures (both figures and scenery) in resin and plastic, so long as there is enough demand. For example, you have seen that all of the core game minis are made in both materials and the Zing Yau Demon stretch goal was introduced as plastic with a resin Add-On. For some upcoming new items, we will split the stretch goals into two parts and you will see one come earlier and one later. We also plan Add-On bundles for the plastic items - plastics are easier to mass produce - but these will be announced later when more molds are ready. There will be more Collectors Upgrades too, including resin demons. Sweet!
This all sounds like good news, but there is never good news without bad. A mix of plastic and resin stretch goals are coming, but the pledge total needs to be a little higher before we announce lots of plastic. Anything you can do to share our project, on your Facebook page, create a buzz on BGG, conversations in your local game store, updates on your blogs will help us get to those higher numbers. They are easily within reach, we are not talking millions.
We will also show a little more information about future stretch goals (check out the front page now). We have a long list of goals planned, and we do change the order based on your feedback and excitement. We do not want to lock down the order completely, but it’s fun to talk about what is coming. We think we have a great product that will be appreciated by two related groups, board gamers and miniature collectors/painters. Help us turn this into a reality!

Scripture Boxes Released!

Welcome new backers! Thanks existing backers! Even though we are in the slower middle stretch, it’s great to see the total moving along. And to see more than 750 backers is great news.
With $110,000 under our belt, the resin Sutras objective markers are unlocked. These can replace the card tokens during the game, giving your tabletop a more 3D feel. We will also add these markers to the Add-Ons category, so anyone can get more items for a $3 increase in the pledge. The Sutras are quest objectives that need to be collected by the Pilgrims, you might use about 4 Sutras in typical quests. According to the lore of the game, if the missing pieces of the Sutras can be collected and assembled, Tripitaka will learn how to seal the Demons back in the underworld permanently. But if the Pilgrims cannot find all the pieces, well, let’s say it’s not good for mankind.
What’s next for our intrepid band of travelers? A KS Exclusive! This Boxed Game Upgrade provides a unique skill card for each Pilgrim.
Also some future stretch goal previews:

The Journey Rulebook

Having good rules is one thing, but explaining them clearly in a rulebook is another. We are hoping the Journey rulebook will be more than clear, it will also be beautiful.
The art of Journey is an important part of the game, in the miniatures and in the map tiles for example, but the rulebook gives us another opportunity to deliver a stunning component. We understand that different people learn in different ways, so the book will include simple text explanations, many diagrams and specific real-world examples. All this will be done in full color with game background interspersed throughout.
It’s an A4 book (similar to US Letter), printed on wood-free paper. It is only an estimate at the moment, but we are thinking it will be about 48 pages. Here are some early work in progress images.

New Skills

We've unlocked another Box Game Upgrade that many of you will get for free!
In the game, each Pilgrim draws a small hand of Skill Cards that can be played at many different points in the game. There are diverse card effects, including dice bonuses, dice re-rolls, healing, extra actions and even altering the behavior of the Demons. Some cards require the Pilgrims to act together. Some bend the rules in unique ways, such as Monkey’s Shadow Walk, allowing him to pass through obstructions. These cards are in short supply and many are one time use, so they are powerful, but must be managed carefully. They make for very tactical play.
With this goal, we will give each of the Pilgrims a new Skill Card. That’s not a re-print of an existing card, we are making new special rules for these 4 cards. These will be KS Exclusives, meaning we will not sell the cards after the KS is completed (clearly, they will not be in the retail game). Backers show us extraordinary support and want to give out something special from time to time.
Moving on the $130,000 goal, we have a Collectors Upgrade. Some of you guessed this was coming in your comments: resin Zing Yau Demon spawning in pairs!

The Limited Time Bonus

Hello backers. You have lots of questions, but we can put one to rest. What is the mystery Limited Time Bonus?
It takes some nerve to pledge a chunk of your money to a couple of strangers running a new company. We know that and we really appreciate it. There are some potential backers out there, watching our progress or planning to come back near the end to see what opened up. That’s a fine strategy and we respect it. But we really are grateful to backers that took the plunge and supported us in the early part of the campaign. As well as saying thank you, we’re giving some of the backers that made their first pledge before the time limit, one free copy of this add-on.
When is the time limit? Three days after the Limited Time Bonus Stretch Goal is unlocked. Not a fixed date, but it’s coming soon. Current backers have already made the deadline, and anyone on the fence can beat the deadline too, if they are quick. We’ll give you some reminders, don’t worry.
Who gets it? Well, it’s a resin Add-On, so we’re giving it to backers receiving Collectors Upgrades. If you are receiving Collectors Upgrades at the end of the campaign, and you made your pledge before the time limit, you will get this resin Add-On mini for free.
What about backers getting just the Boxed Game Upgrades? This Add-On is resin only at the moment, so we can’t give you a free plastic mini yet. How about we make a deal? If we unlock the plastic version of this mini later in the campaign (we want to), then we will also give a free plastic mini to all backers that qualify for Boxed Game Upgrades at the end of the campaign, so long as the pledge was in before the time limit. No double dipping this time, you only get one free mini, plastic or resin.
What is the mini? Hey, we can’t give out too much information ;-)

Resin Zing Yau

So now we have our old friend Zing Yau returning as 2 resin miniatures, free to backers receiving the Collectors Upgrades. This upgrade comes with all cards required to use the miniatures in the game.
Let’s be clear. Those of you getting Boxed Game Upgrades already get one plastic Zing Yau (and cards). Those of you getting Collectors Upgrades will now get two resin minis. Those of you getting both groups of upgrades will get both of these, 1 plastic + 2 resin minis. If you are careful, you can certainly use the resin minis in the game, or you can give them your best paint jobs and display them in your miniatures cabinet – and just play with the plastic one.
We really hope backers getting Collectors Upgrades enjoy this first resin Demon upgrade. We’ve given out 8 plastic minis already, so the Collectors Upgrades were lagging behind a little. Let’s hope this pair of Zing Yaus gets the Collectors Upgrades caught up. Just don’t expect 2 resin minis every time!
Our march continues onwards. Zing Yau is not the only type of Yau Demon. It’s time for another Boxed Game Upgrade, Jing Yau.
Limited Time Bonus
Don’t forget the Limited Time Bonus. The Limited Time Bonus will unlock soon and the 3 day countdown will begin. If you are a non-backer who is checking our progress, you’d better make your pledge soon. See Update #18 for full details.

Game World

The world of Journey starts with our Map Tiles, wonderfully illustrated by Henning Ludvigsen.
Map Tiles are the basis for the game board in Journey, square boards that are arranged differently in each Quest. Each Map Tile portrays one specific area that the Pilgrims encounter. If you only have a tabletop, it’s hard to depict a journey across China, but we think the dramatic changes in scenery from one tile to the next really give the impression of an epic journey. As well as the Map Tiles, we have Bridge Tiles, small strips that separate one Map Tile from its neighbour. Miniatures can only cross from one Map Tile to the next via the actual bridges on the Bridge Tiles.
Physically, the Map Tiles are 30cm (approximately 12”) square, which creates quite a large board once you assemble a few. We are currently looking at 2mm thick stock with the printing on semi-gloss, textured paper. They will be single-sided, so that all the boards can be used together. There are 9 Map Tiles in the base game, and 4 double-sided Bridge Tiles.
But we shouldn’t tell you that the boards look good, we should show you. The high-res links look even better than the pictures we can embed here.
Q0rbin is, of course, pleased that you have accepted his call to join us!
He had to return to the front to counter a new Demon offensive, but before he departed, he left this with me:

More Demons: Jing Yau

You just keep knocking down Stretch Goals as fast as we can create them!
Unlocking Jing Yau lets us show you more art from the highly talented A.J. Manzanedo, it has been an honor to work with him. Here is his stunning inspiration for the Jing Yau miniature, our second Independent Demon:
You have unlocked another free upgrade for most backers! All backers whose rewards include the Boxed Game Upgrades will receive two more free plastic miniatures and all cards necessary to add Jing Yau to the game. Like his counterpart Yau demon, Jing Yau is not unique and you can field as many as you want. They are also available as Add-Ons, for a $15 pledge increase for resin and $4 pledge increase for plastic. That price is each. Don’t worry, Jing Yau is completely optional. You do not have to get the Add-Ons.
Now we can reveal the time limited bonus miniature! Some backers did indeed see a color image of this character flash past in the video. Captain Xi Fung, the Soul Hunter! See update #8 for an introduction to the Soul Hunters. This stretch goal is a resin Add-On, but if you place your pledge before the time limit, you may get it for free. See Update #18. Xi Fung is available in resin at the moment but we hope to convert the master sculpt to a steel mold in a future Stretch Goal, to make plastic versions. Stay with us!

The Clock Starts Now!

We hoped people would have more time to see the information about the Time Limit, but you guys really rushed us through this milestone! It feels great to have so much support.
First, the simple stuff. This beautiful resin miniature is again based on the fine art of Adrian Smith. We are lucky to be working with such a talented team.
Like Soul Hunter Garvok, Captain Xi Fung can be summoned to aid the Pilgrims. But aid might not be the right word. The bad karma he generates might be more hardship than benefit.
For an optional $15 increase to your pledge, this resin miniature is supplied with all the cards required to play the game. He is a unique character, so you only need one miniature if you want to add Xi Fung to the game. As with all Add-Ons, Xi Fung is not required and Journey can be enjoyed without this extra dimension.
Now it gets a little more complex! The 3 day count down has begun. At Monday, 28 October, 21:30 Eastern time,UTC-4hrs, we will save a list of all the current backers. If you are on the list – if you pledge before the deadline – and at the end of the project you are eligible for Collectors Upgrades, you will get a free resin Xi Fung mini, with game cards.
If you are on the list, and you are eligible for Boxed Game Upgrades AND we unlock the plastic Xi Fung, you will get a free plastic Xi Fung. Molds for plastic minis are expensive and we need the pledge total to increase before we can commit to this mold. But it is in our stretch goal list and with only a little luck, it will be unlocked. Backers will only receive one free Xi Fung, either resin or plastic, not both.
Up next, we have custom Journey Marshmallows ;-).
Hmmmm.... Marshamallows....
On a serious note, if any Dakka people plan on dropping their earlybird pledges, let me know please, I would love to snag one; either regular or resin/collectors.

Game Play Update #2 – Pilgrim Profile Sheets
4 comments Like 11 likes
We know many of you are waiting for more information about the rules. Here is our plan. Over the next four weeks, we intend to share a solid understanding of how the game is played. We will not be able to show you the finished rulebook during this campaign, but we hope you will all understand the game before the campaign closes.
We do have rules, we have played and play tested the game. But we do not have all the text, examples and graphics for the rulebook written yet. We want to explain the rules accurately, with examples, and hopefully without ambiguity and omission. This is not trivial and we are not rushing to get the rulebook finished during this campaign. It needs more care and attention than we can give it while we run this Kickstarter and it is important that the first version you see is good. We will have a Journey website with forums and we will show the rulebook to backers before it is finalised. This feedback will help us convert a good version of the rulebook into a great version.
There is a lot of information to share. The rulebook will be over 40 pages with all the graphical examples and back story. We will share the information in manageable pieces, starting with a short video and following that with more in depth text updates. We have 6 videos and some additional updates that will be text and graphics only. In all of the Game Play Updates and the videos we are showing prototype cards and other play aids. The material is subject to change as we settle on consistent terminology and precise wording. We will try to move more information out of the rulebook and on to the cards. Don’t worry, we’ll tweak the fonts and layout before the end. However, everything we show you is close to what you will get in the game. Enough talk! Here’s the video:
We started the game information in Update #10 with the overview. If you want to refresh your memory, here is the update:
Pilgrim Profile Sheets Pilgrim Profile Sheets contain important information for playing each Pilgrim. The goal is that you can play off the sheet, not out of the rulebook. Some stats change during the game, such as Health Points, Karma and Chi, and the Profile Sheet can track this. There are wheels for some stats and sliders for others.
Here is the front of the Monkey King’s Profile Sheet:
This shows some fixed attributes:
MV: The movement points (move one square forwards or turn for one point).
ATT: The number and type of dice for your attack.
DF: The number of defense dice the Pilgrim rolls.
Attack and defense dice rolls will make more sense once you see the next video!
Some stats change during the Quest:
Chi is spent to activate some of the Condition Cards and is recovered by resting.
Bad Karma is tracked with a wheel. You get Bad Karma for killing Demons. If you defeat a Demon, killing it is automatic, if you can risk accumulating the Bad Karma. You can see that as Monkey gets more Bad Karma, his movement is reduced and then his attack range is reduced.
Good Karma is also tracked with a wheel. You get Good Karma for cleansing Demons’ souls. More on this later!
Health Points are common to many games. Lose all your health and you are dead! The attacking update will make it clear how you lose health in an attack, but there are other ways as well. Don’t step on the lava!
The back of the card has useful information too:
There is some flavor text, of course, but the attack range icon is the important thing. Monkey can select one target standing in the red zone, i.e. two squares in front, behind and to either side. Monkey cannot attack diagonally – you have to approach the Demons carefully to get into fighting position.
Demons have profile sheets too, but they are a little simpler because there are no tracking wheels. If a statistic is missing, then it does not apply to the miniature at all. So if there is no defense statistic shown for a bullheaded Bull Demon, you know it does not make any defense rolls.
Our next rules update will show more details of the Map Tiles and then we have a video update for Movement.

Update #24 Oct 27, 2013
KS Exclusive Custom Custom Dice!
10 comments Like 11 likes
Once again, we’ve pushed forwards to another goal!
Journey does not need hundreds of dice to play the game and for almost every roll you only need the dice in the box. But there a few occasions, for example with special skill cards, when you need extra dice. It’s easier to make these rolls if you have a few more dice in your hand.
Journey already comes with custom dice, which we will describe soon. We have made a special custom version of the custom dice as an exclusive bonus for everyone getting Boxed Game Upgrades. The regular dice are colored and these exclusive dice are reversed, with the ink being the color of the regular dice. We hope you like them and that you make all your critical rolls!
No rest for the weary. Next we move on to a new resin Demon, as a Collectors Upgrade. Some backers thought the silhouette might be one of the female demons from the video, but that could not be further from the truth. Let us introduce Ugragosa, the Centipede Demon!
A centipede demon? I wonder how that's going to look; colored me intrigued.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Is anyone on Dakka interested in this besides a few? Or is it just the weekend slowdown I'm seeing in this thread? Sometimes I feel like I'm talking to myself, with just a picture of Alpharius and Q0rbin to gaze upon...
Anyways, another update!

Game Play Update #3 – Map Tile Rules
4 comments Like 7 likes
We showed you the art and some production details about the Map Tiles. Here’s some game play information. We will convert this to precise rules legalese in the rule book, but this should give you a good idea of how the Map Tiles play an active role in the game. You don’t simply move around each square.
Many games have a top down 3D board and there is a common problem. What exactly does the fancy board mean? Where does one feature start and one end? Does that little graphic just poking out there really mean that this whole square is a wall? That square has a chair drawn on it, is that higher ground? Etc, etc.
We have avoided all these problems by outlining key features of the board in color. We did not show this on the Map Tile art before, so take another look now we have added these lines and boxes.
Here's the hi-res link shows the Map Tile more clearly.
The colored lines make it really clear how the features affect the game and exactly where the feature is on the map. No more arguing about that little bump that sticks out. So what do these lines mean?
Green Lines. You can’t move through a feature marked by a green line and you can’t draw line of sight across one of these lines. These lines are used on features like walls and other impenetrable obstacles. So how do you get inside the buildings or courtyards? We have many types of tokens to place on the tiles, including the door tokens. The doors are placed in different positions from one Quest to another, adding more variety to the game.
Red Lines. These mark the squares that damage the Pilgrims but do not damage the Demons. Pilgrims take one point of damage every time they enter one of these squares or if they are stationary on the square for a full turn, for example if they stop moving to attack. Worse than stepping on a crack!
Yellow Lines. These show defensive features. When characters that use the defense dice are here, they get a +1 bonus to defense. This will make more sense once we post the attacking video (attack and defense rolls are a quick opposed dice mechanic for figuring damage).
Blue Lines. These surround areas that slow the Pilgrims down, for example, rivers and marshy ground. Demons are too strong to be impeded by these features, but Pilgrims pay 2 movement points for a blue square not 1.
We have said we are showing you work in progress material in these game play updates. We are currently optimizing the colored lines, the thickness, color, and sharpness of the edges, etc, so they are clear, but do not interfere with the beautiful art that Henning Ludvigsen has created. They are prominent in these images so that you can see what we are talking about.
If you missed Game Play Update #2, on the Profile Sheets, click here.
I'm not sure how I feel about the lines, it make sense in their context but it just breaks up the flow of the board. I really liked how Tannhauser handled this issue with their circles and color coding.

Is anyone on Dakka interested in this besides a few? Or is it just the weekend slowdown I'm seeing in this thread? Sometimes I feel like I'm talking to myself, with just a picture of Alpharius and Q0rbin to gaze upon...
Anyways, another update!
I'm not sure how I feel about the lines, it make sense in their context but it just breaks up the flow of the board. I really liked how Tannhauser handled this issue with their circles and color coding.
Coloured lines seem like a shame on such nicely rendered boards. A water mark type symbol on relevant squares would be a little more elegant, but would be obscured by models.
I am interested....but have Myth and KD:M coming down the pipe, which need to be worked in to my current boardgame schedule of never playing any board games at all.

I know what you mean, I went big into KD:M and a friend went big into Myth; I was suppose to of sworn off kickstarter except for a certain dropship one that was suppose to happen, but I always had a slight interest in Journey to the West but never perused it until now.
With that said, another update!

Here’s trouble! Our most terrifying miniature so far, Ugragosa, the Centipede Demon, with terrific art provided by A.J. Manzanedo. Ugragosa is quite large, 3 squares long on the board. More exciting news, this miniature is a Kickstarter Exclusive. We think it is sure to be popular. He is also a sneak peek of the far future, but we won’t say any more on that subject.
Ugragosa is a unique Independent Demon. Also a powerful and horrific Independent Demon. Lucky backers getting the Collectors Upgrades will receive this beautiful resin miniature with all the cards required for game play, and he’s in the Add-On list for $20. Of course, Ugragosa is optional, but think very carefully before you pass. Ugragosa is one of our favorites, for painting and because he makes the game so tough!
On deck, more scenery. A pair of Demon Spawning Gates.
Man, I really like the concept art for Ugragosa, something you just don't normally see (but I can easily see in KD:M). The collectors edition just keeps getting harder to resist with the add-ons they are getting. Also the backers are posting some nice suggestions for alternatives to the lines; print on both sides, one with lines and one without and another suggestion of having a mission briefing/rear of the rule book. Course reading the comments made me remeber I need to pull Hybrid out and work on it.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Boom, another stretch goal down and another update.

Thanks, backers. We had a very good weekend, even though some people say weekends are slow on Kickstarter. There’s no stopping you guys. And we feel gratified by the all compliments on the campaign. This really is our first KS and sometimes it feels totally out of control. Like this weekend! Yesterday was our best day since the opening rush.
You unlocked the Demon Spawning Gates very quickly! We have received many compliments for them, so Hon is going to try to paint some up, and show you a picture soon. No promises though, he is also trying to eat and sleep, but that is not going very well. Backers getting Collectors Upgrades will get two resin gate markers for free. They are on the Add-On list, at $3 for each. You know the drill, just up your pledge if you want an Add-On and we’ll check with you at the end of the project, to see exactly what you want. More details in the FAQ.
Demon Spawning Gates can be used to replace the color card tokens in the box during the game, so they are optional. We’ll explain the rules for spawning Demons soon, but clearly, these tokens or markers are used to indicate where new Demons appear on the map. Six gates is plenty.
What’s next? A Boxed Game Upgrade, 4 Initiative Tokens.

My pleasure since I'm trying to atone for past sins.
Q0rbin is fast asleep against a tree after drinking deeply from the river, allowing me to share the latest update.

The Clock Runs Down

Thank you for joining this project at the start! Supporting us now and pushing through these Stretch Goals is important to us.
The deadline for the Time Limited Bonus has now ended. We know exactly who made their pledges before this deadline. Everyone who has pledged already could be getting a free miniature (with full game cards) to say thank you.
We will check your rewards at the end of the project. If you are getting Collectors Upgrade at the end of the project (and you pledged before the deadline) you will get a resin version of the Captain Xi Fung miniature. So if you have pledged already for Single Journey and you upgrade to Premium next week and stay there until the end, you get the resin miniature.
What about early backers that just want the game in plastic? If the plastic version is opened by a future Stretch Goal, we will give backers who end up getting just the Box Game Upgrades (so long as they pledged early) a plastic Xi Fung for free. Are we certain we can make the plastic Xi Fung? No. The pledges could stop today. Even The Monkey King cannot see the future. But this stretch has been scheduled and if the total continues to increase at this steady rate, the goal will unlock.
No double dipping, we’re afraid. You get at most one of these minis as a gift.
We are doing this to reward backers that took a risk supporting us, not to exclude the later backers. Soul Hunter Captain Xi Fung will now be shown on the Add-On list just like normal and any new backers can pick one up just like any other Add-On. Don’t forget if you are getting a free Captain Xi Fung, he is unique, so you probably don’t want to pledge for this Add-On.
Summary
To get a free resin Captain Xi Fung you must:
• Have made your pledge before this update was posted.
• Receive Collectors Upgrades when the Kickstarter closes.
To get a free plastic Captain Xi Fung you must:
• Have made your pledge before this update was posted.
• The plastic Captain Xi Fung Stretch Goal must unlock, sometime in the future.
• Receive Boxed Game Upgrades when the Kickstarter closes.
And Collectors Upgrade backers only get the resin miniature free, not both miniatures.
I appreciate them posting a summary and trying to make sure all is clear after reading some poor communication from other kickstarters...

I have really liked how they have run this KS. I wish I had the money to try to get into this one, but with MYTH on its way, I don't have much room for 'yet another board game'.
:(
I may get this for the minis alone at the end.
