That is both interesting and something new. Good to know, although I can't say I'd expect any less from the Tau. Master strategists, they be. Too bad they are but pawns in the grand design of my masters Final Scheme. +__+

Just in case you're curious, the information comes from the latest Farsight supplement. So it really is extremely new info, but it does reconcile a lot of things.

It also mentions it in the codex, in the timeline under "The Stasis Chamber". The Tau have advance this technology far enough so entire cadres can be put in stasis on transports., ready for battle as soon as they reach their destination

I believe it is mostly for interstellar transportation, as the Tau don't have the ability to fully enter the Warp, they just "bounce" off its surface, like a stone on a pond, to enable something approaching FTL travel.

When you only live to 40, you're going to take every shortcut you can to ensuring you last as long as possible, so I can see them adapting the technology to ground-based use. Shoot, I bet every Tau that can afford it turns their bed into a stasis chamber, so they don't lose precious hours of their life sleeping!

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

I realise the last bit was a bit facecious, but if you go into stasis rather than sleeping, then you'd get tired rather quickly
