Needed a diversion from the Manufactorum because my attention span is limited so I went digging through my big box of unpainted terrain... I have a lot of unpainted crap I've been collecting...

Anyways, i pulled out my Honoured Imperium statue and figured this should be a quick one. So here we go:

Army Painter matte black undercoat.

One heavy drybrushing with Balthasar Gold. Originally I had seen the Citadel painting chart and thought that a light drybrush of Golden Griffon or whatever over this would have been good but it's already a fairly bright bronze. It looks brighter in these pictures with the light on it.

I almost wish I went darker. It's definitely darker than it looks. You can barely see the black hiding beneath in these pictures but I assure you it's there.

Astrobanana for scale.

Heavy washing with Agrax Earthshade. Still wet.

Here he is after drying in less direct light. I am thinking about what to do next in terms of weathering. I have Nihilakh Oxide to apply but prior to that I may want a very light dry brush of something. I want to keep this simple. I want good looking speed painting. I just don't want unfinished plastic anymore.

Astropath in an old crater. Out of print now maybe?

Perhaps this unfinished crater is next after more work on the manufactorum.

Just because.

Any tips for quick and easy effects for the statue is welcome.

Well. A failed experiment with Nihilakh Oxide led to this. I could not make that look right at all... Disappointing.

So I have become quite distracted. I am a very slow painter. I lose interest very fast in a project and spend a lot more time thinking about stuff to make or paint than I do actually painting.

Something I have always wanted to do since I was a kid was paint up Imperial Fists. I never bothered. I didn't think I had the skills to do anything but dip.

I tried a bunch of test models. Tried to make Quickshade work for yellow. It doesn't.

So I decided i wasn't gonna settle for something easier like Crimson Fists. I tried something more conventional than dipping. Here is my first real model.

The yellow is uneven because it needs more coats.

There are no highlights yet. I intend to highlight.

Power fist added. The helmet has since been highlighted as well.

Very slow going. But I feel like I have the scheme down pat. Sorry for the potato quality.

Hi Scippio, nice work on the Imperial Fist, loving the nice clean and crisp hello!

I couldn't keep my hands steady today for highlights, so I worked on this.

Balthasar Gold over black. Agrax Earthshade wash. Dry brushed with Necron Compound. No matter what I do the lighting sucks and you can't see the Necron Compound in the photos but it is very noticeable in real life.

I don't think I am going to bother with the Nihilakh Oxide this time. I couldn't make it work without it looking weird to me last time. I don't want to redo it.

If anyone has any tips on how to make it work though, maybe...

Automatically Appended Next Post:

I tried the Nihilakh Oxide again. I just went way slower this time. It's still WIP. But it looks way better than last time.

The lighting is pure trash. Maybe I'll be able to take a better picture when it is done.

So it's all done. Varnished with matte spray from Army Painter.

You can't tell but I painted a little bit of the Nihilakh Oxide on to all the flat panels and then used my finger to drag the paint down and smudge it. The whole surface of the model is done this way to give it a more weathered look. It does not translate to the photo graph and looks much, much dirtier and duller in reality.

The Nihilakh in the cracks in the head and shield are just amazing!

Thanks!

I wish I could take a picture that shows how dull and dirty it actually looks.
