when your main battle tank is built on a tractor frame, and still manages to beat out the high tech skimmer with one well placed shot, you don't need to worry about who's more advanced. Because you have a tractor with a gun on it that just shot down a railgun firing marvel of engineering. And if he tags your gun tractor, don't worry.

You still have ten thousand more waiting to fire.

Think of something clever to say.

I feel that the Empire of Man is still fastly outclassed in tech, but their 'focus' on war-time technology over general tech is what allows them to keep up somewhat in the field of battle.

Sure, their weapon systems are almost on part with the 'technology races', but their defensive systems are inferior and their general tech that the populace has access to is dramatically less sophisticated. A basic everyday human on a hive colony lives in a technological state that is far less advanced than we live in today.

"The most complicated example of high-tech machinery can be neutralized by liberal application of the common hammer" as the saying goes.

The Imperium doesn't need to be high-tech, it just needs to have brutal-tech.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

I'm pretty sure that the "basic everyday human" on Earth is a third-world country peon and not a middle-class citizen of a first-world country. So your statement would look like this correctly: "A basic everyday human on a hive colony lives in a technological state that is far less advanced than the best our modern world could provide." .

I was comparing them by societal standards. If you want to compare a 3rd world area with no facilities at all, I wouldn't be comparing it to a Hive world. I guess I could have been more specific to not lose people.

I still feel my comparison is accurate. Technological advancement and its availability to those that are not of the wealthiest or military, is far greater on our planet than in the Imperium. If you want to compare 3rd world countires as a 'everyday human on earth', I still think they have more access than those on a Feral World in the imperium.

Well, the point being, "everyday human" is used to indicate the average. There are far more people living in third-world poverty on Earth than there are living in First-World nations.

Well, 3rd world countries do have access to advanced technology but this access is restricted to the rich. Just like in a hive city: you have the poor slaves toiling endlessly in mines and factories, a small middle-class and the upper class with all the shiny tech. Only that the Imperium's shiny tech is much better than ours.

While the bottom of the world population is truly destitute you might be surprised how the median earthling lives. They have an home or apartment with running water, a refrigerator, stove, toilet and shower. They have a scooter or small motorcycle to get around and a phone to call. They eat a varied died of fresh vegetables, some of which are sourced from distant countries. They occasionally go out to eat in restaurants.

They do not have a car, they do not have a computer or a smart phone. They are not however destitute.

Yes, but when you compare 3rd World countires you'd go down to the 'everyday citizen' on a Feral World for the Imperium which has no 'rich' to give Tech to. So the comparisin still holds true.
