I have seen two 5 player games played and played in one 4 player game. I frequent a local GW proper store and it seems to be the preferred way to play since it maximizes players on limited table space and it's still engaging.

We played 1000pts, which means 200 pts of Mercenaries. Our fight was Skaven v Skaven v High Elves v Warriors of Chaos. I was a Skaven player with an Engineer (Mt Lvl 2), BSB, 3x Clanrats with Warp Flame Throwers, Gutterrunners with Slings/Psn, and a Warp Lightning cannon. My merc was a High Elf Archmage with death spells.

The Treachery cards are HORRENDOUS but awesome. I tried two turns in a row to vaporize a large block of Chaos Warriors with my WLC only to be redirected at another target or "sabotaged" not to fire. People feared it. I did vaporize almost a full block of Storm Vermin with it.

You get points for not only scoring objectives but scoring unit kills. Sniping out HQs with Death magic netted me some GREAT points.

The most hilarious even was the Chaos Warriors block charging a unit of Clan Rats. I chose to Flee! because... cmon, duh. He redirected into my Warpflame thrower but sadly forgot that it's a stand and shoot model. 9 dead Chaos Warriors later, he failed a panic check and broke. The wee rat team was roiling with laughter... only to be punked by the allied in Ogre Butcher's pistol.

I ended up winning after turn five by 50 points (read, very small margin). This is actually getting me back into Fantasy and wanting to build "T&T" 1000 pt armies or mercenary bands.

I found the best mercenary band for 1K games, though... warplock engineer + two warp lightning cannons. Enjoy that slice of fried gold.

Is it worth $85... no? It's super fun, but that seems a bit high for an expansion. Maybe a cheaper variant will come out for $40~50 (probably not). That seems more the right price. Still recommended!

I find it weird to give every army the chance of taking mercenaries, but then not give the stats and rules for the existing mercenary regiments and discontinue their models. When did GW stop being mainly a miniature company?

I just threw up a little.

As for the cost of fielding that little gem: I already own 3 WLCs.

lol! I have one actual one and I'm building a second one out of a WLC kit + rat ogres to make a "heavy weapons" team. Someone else did that and I love the idea of using rat ogres (for anything other than ogres, really) as weapon slaves.

Just played a game of T&T last weekend. 4 players, 1500 points each. I was the only one who brought mercenaries (TK with two level 2 necros and zombies). Here's some thoughts:

1) It's really important that you have some way to hurt your enemies EVERY PHASE. That makes warmachines a far more important addition to your army than might otherwise be the case, since you can lob them into your enemy even when your combat and magic can't reach.

2) Don't be the lowest-level wizard. If you do then you'll end up getting targetted whenever someone wants to get buffs off, making it just that much more likely that you'll get hammered with offensive magic.

3) Be flexible. Fast-moving units are very important, as you'll often find yourself having to dynamically shift between fronts. Either because your opponent played the "Nope, you attack someone else this phase" card on you, or because you need to focus-fire on an enemy that's swooping in on your flank.

4) Mercenaries aren't as strong as you think. -1LD is rather brutal when you can't benefit from IP or BSB, and won't be spending much on your heros. Your best bet here is probably going to go for warmachines, or something that won't see much combat. It's also important that you don't put all your eggs in one basket, as 50 victory points to neuter your mercenaries at a key moment is too much of an opportunity for every single one of your opponents to pass on.

5) Expect huge swings in the game. Losing players get more cards, and you'll often find yourself shedding victory points to pay off mercenaries or for the cost of cards.

Im assuming mercs must stay as a separate unit? It could be pretty funny to see a sac daggar sorceress and a lore of nehekara lich priest in a brick of skellies. She kills a few, he stands'em back up lol

Fantasy: Tomb Kings, Dark Elves, Wood Elves, Lizardmen, Daemons
40k: Daemon Hunters (GK,MT allied), Tallarn Armored Battle Group, Night Lords.
Firestorm Armada/Firestorm Planetfall: Dindrenzi

My understanding is that all mercenaries are suspicious allies, meaning they don't benefit from IP/BSB and can't join units, but DO count each other as friendly for the purposes of spells. So your Vampire Counts necromancy affects your TK units, being "friendly" as a suspicious ally and "Undead" as per the TK FAQ. It was a kind of cheesy combo, though nowhere near as good as it looks on paper due to the ability to bribe mercenaries, and the perception of cheese resulted in me getting 3-way pummelled for a number of turns until I was effectively out of the game.

That's really the issue with T&T. The perception of threat is more important than the actual threat, and as a result you get gangups and all sorts of other nonsense. Something to keep in mind while list building, definitely.

Saw some people playing it the other day, I only watched like half of turn 1 but the whole 'you're my enemy this phase, sorry other guy my troops are going to have to back out of that fight we're stuck in' seems stupid.

Oh, I certainly vote with my dollar, but the problem is that that is not enough. The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that.

Simply an awesome game mode and pretty brutal in 5v5! We play it twice a week for some hours besides the vanilla warhammer and it's really funny. We had all kind of dirty tricks goin. From ganging up on someone to ''pay me or I will wipe you'' (got wiped after payed anyway) to netting good cards for bad ones and such stuff. I think with less than 5 players it's not so good but 5 is killer. Last but not least you can play some really crazy lists.

I am thinking of picking this up for my gaming group. Some of us, the not to uppity and argumentative ones outside of tournaments, are looking for a crazy, fun way to play and I think this would work.

Dark Angels- 7500 pts
Tau- 5000pts
Chaos Daemons- 3000/2000 pts
Dark Eldar(allies)- 1500 pts

My gaming group is looking at pushing the system to the limit and playing a Triumph & Treachery Storm of Magic game.

How many Vp's should we put to holding a fulcrum at the end of the turn. and should this be Vp's for each one or for dominance levels?

We played a five player 600pt game last night:

Ogres vs Dwarves vs Chaos Daemons vs Beastmen vs High Elves

None of us knew about the allies thing as we were all new to the game

I was the Ogre player, and it seemed that my units were initially just melting away but I had played MSU and eventually started steamrolling over the other players (ignoring the Dwarves and Chaos who were just going at each other)

Won with a huge margin of coinage

Loved the style want to play it more

Its an absolute blast. I listen to around 10 WHFB podcasts of varying degrees of play, from strictly tournament play to a more narrative/campaign style and they all have positive things to say.

Its a fun distraction from practicing competitive lists and organized play.

Also, if you game with a group, have them all chip in!
