Besides the spartan

Its a tie for me between the redeemer and the crusader

One has extra transport cap, the other an ap3 flamer that mulches pretty much any troop.

Boths purpose is to move your spiky innard 18" up the field as fast as possible, and puke out an assault turn two/or one (if going second)

So really its a few extra model space and some generic TL bolters, vs less model space and a super flamer.

Both should be likely to move up that 18" first turn, after which if both survive the redeemer wins out just by being already 18" up field and having a bit more use than just bolters. my 2cents

I don't think you can purchase LR as dedicated transports for any unit but Termies can you?

They wouldn't have scout as they're bulky.

You are correct.

Crusader squads can too but only the LRC variant

I would say the redeemer. It has additional transport capacity and it compliments the role of its cargo well. The redeemer is cool but its more for rolling up on gunlines. Id magnetise the tank.

My personal favorite is the Land Raider Ares, but I'm not entirely sure it's legal; it was Games Workshop's poster child for homebuilt datasheets back when the 4e Apocalypse rules came out and mounted a Demolisher cannon, the Vindicator's siege shield, and two twin-linked heavy flamers plus a six-model transport capacity and all the standard trimmings of a Land Raider for 300pts.

Agreed. It's in a legal grey zone and I never assume that an opponent will agree to letting me run mine, but seeing the look on their face when you plunk down a LR with a Demolisher on the front end is priceless.

but unless you think you'll be dealing with a lot of very spread-out T3/Sv5+ models that are actively staying between 10" and 12" of your Land Raider the Flamestorm Cannon is pretty much strictly better than the Hurricane Bolter.
Doesn't that assume that the LR is static and not moving?

Also, your hurricane bolters just need to touch 12" to the closest model to take advantage of the full rapid fire effect. Their kill range is 24", so its not like you stop killing at 12".

The targets do matter. In 5th edition when I played nothing but MEQ, I always brought the redeemer. In 6th, I usually fact xenos so the crusader is the weapon of choice.
