Absolutely fantastic!

Randy, I'm a huge fan of your guard force, and constantly refer to your PDF blog whenever I'm in need of ideas or inspiration (or a way to pass the time in the men's room...) I've lifted quite a few ideas from your guard and applied them to my own force!

My main/regular opponent (and best friend) also plays nids, and our armies have a long history of facing off against each other much like yours and Alex's. A Guard vs Nid matchup is some of the most fun you can have with 40k (Starship Troopers/Aliens anyone?!) and are definitely my favorite reports to read on dakka. I love the 'casual' lists you both use as well, as I think fun/fluffy games are lost on many players these days.

Thank you for an excellent read, and hopefully we'll see more in the future!

Yeah, the place for more in the future will probably be here....
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/537842.page in our campaign thread.
We're not sure on the format yet but we'll probably battrep in the battrep section here and post a few cinematic bits over there in the campaigns section. Links will go both ways so that'd be the one to subscribe to if you don't want to miss out.
I've been making terrain bits and working on some scenarios for it so there should be plenty of fluffy guard on funny nid action to be had when we next get a chance.
I'm glad you enjoyed it, cheers.

Thanks a lot! That's very high praise. It's humbling to think people are inspired by one's efforts, I'd love to see your stuff if it's online anywhere?
I know what you mean re: army comp, there's only so many TripTide Taudar vs QuadTurkey DaemonBomb reports I can read. 'Normal' armies always seem under represented. There is definitely something special about Nid v IG, very iconic.

Thanks for your kind words, I think this pic shows we beat the rum!

No I know what you mean, Appleton's is always a winner.

Inquisitor Bestor sat, his fingers gently rimming the glass of VSOP-X213 Zimbolian Sancerre, a fine vintage, he felt somewhat uneasy.
Had full protocol been followed? Who was to know or care? He had his prize, but something deep within his Psimind flickered as if in a dream.
As the Obsidian Heart melted into the inky blackness of deep space something wasn't quite right ...........

Speaking of which...

Haven't read a battle report from your Slaanesh marines which I thought you'd have brought back to the table with the recent codex n all?

What someone online on the other side of the world that you've never met says should never deter you from taking a unit for being either weak or OP. The community is a great place to come for tactics advice, and there is a lot of very sound opinions and idea out there, but at the end of the day, play the game how you want to... Don't worry about the hordes of Dakka descending on your gaming club to arrest you for taking one heldrake or not using a screamerstar. Knowing the standard opinion (and that's all it is) on what is good/bad and conforming to that opinion religiously are two entirely separate things.

Yeah, I don't really know what happened there. I'd started to touch up and titivate them a bit as confirmation of the book came about. I think that I got about 15 guys looking significantly better and all five of the tanks had been re basecoated, It kind of felt like I was just painting a whole new army from scratch and I hit the wall.
The repainted models look waaay better than they did but they're not as good as they could be if i'd started from scratch for just as much painting effort (minus the build).
I had no desire to ruin any of the new models from DV box or the new jump packers with this scheme and I didn't want to play with the new Zoids.
I bought the book and it never grabbed me plus i'd have to mess about allying with daemons to make my list work again.
I was just a bit meh but I do think about sorting them out sometimes as it'd probably only take a few days.
Also I had 3k of DE to build and paint.
Nids to build and paint (as always)
IG weapons teams and tanks to paint
Warmachine Pirates to finish
Space Hulk to paint
A GK army commission.
and who knows what else...
